New York Yankee's Owner, George Steinbrenner died in a Tampa, Florida hospital this morning at the age of 80. Steinbrenner suffered a heart attack at his Florida home and was transported to Tampa's, St. Joseph Hospital where he died at approximately 6:30 am.

George Steinbrenner purchased the New York Yankees in 1973 when they were anything but newsworthy and helped turn them around to be one of the best baseball teams in the league.

Under Steinbrenner's owner and leadership, the New York Yankees went on to win multiple championships including 11 pennants and 7 World Series Titles.

Although successful, Steinbrenner was known for his controversial decisions and dealings regarding his Major League Baseball player's statuses and salaries and endured two suspensions for ethical and legal violations.

Because of George Steinbrenner's character, reputation, and business dealings, he was often mentioned in the media and made several guest appearances on popular television shows, commercials, and movies.

Steinbrenner's media résumé consisted of appearances on "Saturday Night Live," "The Simpson's," "Visa Commercials," "Miller Light Beer Commercials," "Albert Brooks Comedy the Scout," and "ESPN's The Bronx is Burning."

Regardless of public opinion and perception, George Steinbrenner's family suffered a great loss and will only remember him as generous and philanthropic.
