New York Yankees Vs. Philadelphia Phillies Game 5 Betting Pick

The Yankees and Philies face off in what could be the deciding game of the World Series tonight.

The Vegas line is - 1 1/2 for the betting favorite Phillies. But can Philadelphia stave off elimination this time around in their home ballpark?

New York Yankees vs. Philadelphia Phillies Game 5 Betting Pick

Many people thought Philadelphia was ready to roll over in game four of the series and pack up shop. But the Phillies came out and proved some people wrong. They battled back to tie game four of the World Series at four before Alex Rodriguez came up with a clutch double in the eighth inning to give the Yankees the lead.

In game five of the World Series Cliff Lee will go up against AJ Burnett. Both guys are excellent pitchers and have had postseason success before.

Picking game five is tough because the Yankees have a lot of momentum but the pick here is that the Phillies will dig deep and find a way to get it done at home.

Ryan Howard finally showed signs of breaking out of his World Series slump in game four and he could take the power pitcher Burnett deep if he gets ahold of one of his fastballs in game five.

Also, Lee has a slight edge in the pitching department for Philadelphia as he is well-rested and ready to go.

Most people other than Yankees fans probably hope this pick is right because it would set up a great showdown with Pedro Martinez taking the mound next time around for the Phillies against the Yankees. That would be high drama.

The Yankees might be destined to win this World Series but for now the Phillies should be able to stave off elimination at home and win this one.

The pick: Phillies extend the World Series and cover the betting spread with a 6-3 win in game five.

    I'm not a betting man, but if I were, my life savings would be on NY! Miracles are so, so rare- the wishes of Phillies fans notwithstanding :-}
