New York's New Governor: Eliot Spitzer

Daniel Rein
New York has a new governor for the first time in 12 years and his name is Eliot Spitzer. Spitzer received the Democratic Party nominee after he had been the state Attorney General for 2 terms. The election of Eliot Spitzer brings back hope to New York after having a republican Governor George Pataki for 12 years. Although the state of New York is a liberal state and has voted for a Democratic President in most of the elections in the past 50 years, New York isn't so liberal on a local level and very often, especially in New York City which is a lot more liberal than upstate New York, a Republican politician will be elected.

Now the turn of the tide has shifted back to the Democrats with the election of Eliot Spitzer who campaigned on the slogan, "Day One everything changes." Using that slogan he won a landslide victory over his opponent. On New Years day, Eliot Spitzer took office and said that it was Day One and change would occur. With prominent politicians in attendance in his inauguration speech, Eliot Spitzer hammered former Republican Governor George Pataki indirectly as Eliot Spitzer was quoted as saying that "New York has slept through the past decade while the rest of the world has made huge progress."

Eliot Spitzer attacked the inadequate health care system of New York and promised reform. Spitzer also criticized the public school system as being ineffective and having done a poor job of educating students. Spitzer promised an emphasis on the State University college system known as SUNY so that students will stay in the state of New York to get an education and get jobs in New York. Spitzer also hammered home his objective of not raising taxes and getting rid of corrupt officials, a problem that has hurt New York State because of officials taking bribes. Spitzer promised a solution to the gridlock of the state legislature which has gotten nothing done. Spitzer promised change now as he took office and the power and enthusiasm in his voice made you believe he would try his hardest and succeed in making New York a better place and a brighter future.

Eliot Spitzer has a bright future and with a supportive wife who is extremely bright and will have an office to help Eliot Spitzer make decisions, Spitzer has assembled a team geared to make changes beneficial to New York. Eliot Spitzer also has 3 daughters.

Eliot Spitzer made his rise to popularity in the state of New York by cleaning up Wall Street and taking on big businesses filled with corruption as he served as the state's Attorney General. Eliot Spitzer's lieutenant Governor is David Patterson.

Eliot Spitzer is by far one of the best public speakers that New York has ever seen and he could quite possibly make a run at the White House in the future if he succeeds at rebuilding New York which I have the utmost faith that he will. Day 1 has begun and change has begun for New York.
