New York's Illegal Immigrants-Drivers' License Plan Angers African-Americans
Political Analyst Earl Ofari Hutchinson Discusses Illegal Immigration's Impact on African-Americans in His New Book, the Latino Challenge to Black America: Towards a Conversation Between African-Americans and Hispanics.
Political analyst Earl Ofari Hutchinson details the anger and hostility that many African-American community activists and rank and file workers express toward illegal immigrants on the issue of driving licenses for illegal immigrants in his new book The Latino Challenge to Black America: Towards a Conversation Between African-Americans and Hispanics (middlepassagepress.com).
Hutchinson tells how the driving license controversy is part of the bigger concern of many African-Americans over jobs, health care, education, public services and gang violence in relation to illegal immigration. They vehemently contend that illegal immigrants do take jobs from blacks, especially poor, unskilled young blacks.
Hutchinson assesses the impact of illegal immigration on jobs and the economy in black communities. "Illegal immigration has touched a raw nerve among many blacks, "says Hutchinson, "they are absolutely convinced that they contribute to crime, violence and chronic unemployment in black communities. The great fear of many blacks is that issuing drivers license to illegal immigrants sends the message that illegal immigrants have the same rights and privileges as blacks and other Americans. This could create even more tensions and divisions between blacks and Latinos.

Post a CommentI'm currently enrolled in college now, I'm 31 years old, married with two young children. Since my family had to relocate due to my spouse's employment I have noticed I'm having to compete with not only degree holders but Spanish bilinguals as well. So I can understand the frustration that the black community can have with the latino community. I have applied for jobs that I know I met and exceeded the qualifications but what kills me is that famous phrase (Spanish bilingual preferred) Yes I come from a Call center/customer service background, currently living in GA and I'm catching it. I'm not looking for "hand outs" or "breaks" but just an equal opportunity. Another person commented on her son having a hard time receiving service I agree, I have been turned away for "free or assisted" service from the hospital itself and was told we had to apply for state care and the reason "because your an American citizen" ...wow...
I do feel there is an issue with some immigrants and illegal immigrants when we discuss our economic crisis.I for one have experienced extreme discrimination from Hispanic,Latino people that are first generation and second generation.I am African-American, Native American and Dutch. When I graduated from High School in Los Angeles, California which was in 1995 I couldn't find a job to save my life. When I was employed I was either discrimination against or me or sexually harrassed. I'm now in New York City and I'm 33 years and I notice the same pattern with the hiring of Hispanics over African-Americans,I notice we are paying for their free housing and paying for their health care and education.I don't get it?Where is my family suppose to go? I'm in college trying to obtain my degree all these years and survive what are we suppose to do?Where can we go.My ancestors native were forced to learn English,my ancestors African were forced to learn English, and my Dutch ances
the absolute utter stupidity and political ignorance of blacks and liberal whites alike is astounding! not to worry there are still people here in usa with intact brain matter. to BW who said her jobs require a degree so she's not impacted, wrong. i have a degree, many jobs i am otherwise qualified for now goes to anyone bilingual in spanish. Am i living in Mexico? illegals are killing blacks in order to run them out of historically black areas etc..time for blacks to come off vacation
Yap, Yap, Yap, poor me, I'm black. Some of these ghetto youth don't want the jobs that the Mexicans take. They rather stand on the corner all day and look at women asses and play their loud rap music. They don't know what a condom is either. Educated blacks have passed these idiots by and could care less about some Mexican getting a job. Hutchinson needs to shut up and stop playing the race card. Yap, Yap,Yap.
This article should just encourage Black people to get and education. I am a college educated BW and I am not worried about illegals. Why you may ask? Because all the jobs I have worked on required a college degree.
well to get started on this the new generation of black people or more ignorant then ever turning more ghetto so what happens is no employee is going to hire people like them they steal lie and are to ghetto so when a latino imigrant come to the us what they do is work hard for there money they get jobs that black cant do because they are to lazy to do thats why they rather sell crack cocaine so then there tension between blacks and latinos because most of the black decide to rob inocent latinos of w.e little they have and second generation latinos cant stand that and that were things go off but black people shouldnt be getting mad what they should do is dicipline this dumb generation of blacks and good luck with that this is one tuff generation to much ignorant blacks in the U.S you give a black money first thing they buy is a chain more expensive then there house rims and next thing you know they owe money to the goverment and everything gets taken away god bless the upcoming generat
Horse and buggy days were a better time...why can't we just go back to that and be done with it alreay!
has anyone yet stoped to see what rights you lose with the "enhanced" cards? equipted with rfid chips that can track your every movment on highways, ect.
last time i checked 4th amendments right to privacy was thrown out the window with these real id cards.
if they cant push it on the illegals theyll push it on you. after all the main goal of homeland, its to spy on americans. you me, and anyone else who have drivers license in this country.
Every American should be madd as ell!
You work for something yet others get paid?
The only good thing about New York Drivers license for illegal aliens is they would head towards New York in droves. Better there than here.
I need the tax relief. We could open up that closed hospital again. The traffic would be lighter. The security fence could be turned off and save electricity.
Perhaps the motion sensor light also.
Illegals are our cousins, ops bush cuzins.
The politicians have cheated us long enuf vote em out!
I know that my child was badly injured and could not go to the clinic for a follow up while the place was full of illegal immigrants. I don't hate anyone except the system. I am not some ignorant black dog dancing around the masters leg trying to get favoritism over the brown dog, I am better than that. Black people wake up go get it for yourself instead of waiting on dogbones. I will graduate from college in May at 39 years old. Recognize what is coming at you and elevate your social status by investing in yourself. Hell will freeze over and you will still be looking up at master with those soulful eyes while the world goes on without you. I realize that it may seem hard for some but stop whining and aim for something.
