The New Zealand White Rabbit is easy to distinguish from the rest as their body is generally covered in pure white fur, and they have a relatively large and solid body. Commercially, they are most often associated with the Easter bunny. They have erect ears, and red eyes, and are definitely a beauty to have around especially as pets. They also have a cheerful and friendly nature, and are quite the affectionate pet to have around. They can also pick up and learn new tricks rather easily; thus, they make good pets, and are good show-offs at county fairs.
Generally, the New Zealand White Rabbit is averaged size. The bucks are generally slightly smaller than the does though. A buck will weigh in at an average of 10 pounds while a doe will weigh in at an average of 11 pounds.
Show rabbits have quite a lot of standards in how they are supposed to look. For one, they should be strong and muscular looking, and their head needs to be proportionate with their body. A non-existent looking neck is highly looked for, and highly regarded. Their eyes should be a deep red, and always looking bright and alert (much like for any other show rabbit), and it is extremely important that their ears can stand erect. Their body should not have too much fat on it, but they should also be meaty looking, and their toenails should either be white or flesh-looking. Their fur should be nice and dense since they are farmed for their fur, and should be a lovely white color. Sometimes, New Zealand White Rabbits have yellowy cream color for their fur instead of white which is not highly looked upon. The fur should not be too soft, but rather have a sort of stiffness that comes with it. In this case, if your bunny is molting at the time it is not a good time to show it off at fairs.
While there are high standards towards the perfect looking rabbit, not all rabbits do look as perfect or meet up to the standards. Even if they are not perfect enough for the fairs, they still are wonderful, gentle pets to have around!
