So far there are now at least two suspects in custody for the high school shooting of the four college students in Newark, N.J.

During a news conference on Thursday, a description not given of murder suspect Jose Carranza, but his picture was shown on TV during the televised conference. Mayor Cory Booker said that when he was contacted, the suspect and his lawyer were in a car on Broad Street Booker arranged for them to meet him at 22 Franklin Street. He said that he thought they should meet at the safest location. He sent the police ahead who secured the area and prepared for their arrival.

The press asked Booker to describe what happened and what was said. Referring to Carranza, Booker said, "He came forward I put my hand on him, turned him around, he was handcuffed and turned over to detectives." The Mayor assisted and sat him in a chair then the Mayor left. The lawyer, Montalvo said that he would stay clear to allow his client to be processed and would return later.

In regard to the murderers, Booker said that they harmed the community fabric, the spirit of the community and the community reputation. The press asked about the connection of Carranza with the 15-year-old who was injured in the attacks. Was he the father, was that his son or a friend? A police representative said that they did not believe that there was any blood relationship. Was he the leader? someone asked. The police are investigating.

Booker said that he was angry and that he wanted the killers off of the street. He said that he wanted the person in custody quickly before he changed mind. Booker called the family to keep them ahead of press then came to the second press conference.

He said no words were exchanged between himself and Carranza, who was born in March 1979. He was asked and initially answered that there were no formal charges by the prosecutor yet. Another official stated that aggravated assault was the initial charge. There is still an ongoing hunt for others, the "heinous perpetrators of this crime" Booker said.

Is this tip of iceberg to make Newark turn around one press member asked. Mayor Booker said, "There is every opportunity to accomplish that." The mayor spoke Spanish for the Spanish-speaking press at both press conferences.

Families, he said, have a deep sense of gratitude to law enforcement. There would be some semblance of solace.

My response below was to a comment which may no longer appear from a blocked user who compared this article to one about something that had no comparison at all.

Here on the East Coast, during the news conference, Mayor Booker specifically and deliberately did not mention the race of the suspects in order NOT to profile them racially. New Jersey has been a key State in putting a stop to racial profiling after seral young African American men were mistreated a number of years ago. This is a story about 4 young people shot 3 dead execution style. The two stories are no comparison. This article did not profile either.
