Newborn Baby Boys and Why They Should Never Be Left Undiapered

Save Your Fine Art by Leaving Your Newborn Diapered at All Times

Carly Hart
As a seasoned parent, I thought I had taking care of a newborn down pat. Babies are all the same, right? Wrong. Baby boys are a whole other animal and one aspect of taking care of a newborn baby boy that I was not prepared for was his ability to urinate a far distance the moment he was left undiapered. Though I had had extensive diapering experience with our daughter, I was unaware of a newborn baby boy's ability to hit targets from across a room.

The first week that our son came home, my preschool aged daughter was intently interested in all aspects of his care. She wanted to be a helper and in the interest of wanting to make her feel included, we encouraged her help with simple tasks such as handing us a diaper or wipe container. One day, I was changing our son on the changing table and removed his diaper. Though he had just wet his diaper, he must have had a reserve tank since the moment I took off his diaper, a urine stream arced across the room, hitting a signed and numbered print hanging on the wall. My daughter, without skipping a beat, asked me if her brother had a fire hose in there! I quickly covered him with a new diaper and from that incident forward, we perfected the art of changing his diaper quicker than a pit stop in a Nascar race.

As for the signed and numbered print, it survived. When we recently moved the print to an opposing wall, my daughter was quick to ask me if I remembered her brother peeing my Noah's Ark picture. The Print is called "Celebration" and depicts the massive departure of the animals from the Ark. It seems that the print survived its own Great Flood.

  • Diapering baby girls is way different that diapering newborn baby boys.
  • Watch out for that fire hose!
  • Think that your newborn baby boy can't hit that picture across the room? Think again!

Our first two were boys, and the first one my mother came to stay for a short while to help out with him. She was changing his diaper one day, and just as she leaned over to pick him up and slide the diaper underneath his rear he let go a stream that hit her square in the face. I was her youngest son and was almost 28. I guess she had forgotten how unpredictable we are when it comes time to get rid of our pee. Great story Carly. Johnny Yuma

I've had all girls, so have not had to encounter this! LOL!

Yeah, I was in the same boat. Much to my embarassment, it happened in the hospital under the watchful eyes of the nurses (whose eyes I could feel rolling with my back turned).

My son never missed an opportunity to provide his own fountain. I always ducked when I changed him.

What a story. I have a vague memory of my parents repainting the ceiling rather suddenly in my brother's room when he was a baby. . . .

Wow that's crazy. It reminds me of an episode of an episode of The Golden Girls. They were trying to change a baby's diaper and they were asking "is it Frankie or Francie?" After removing the diaper they realized it was a Frankie.

LOL. My first born was a boy so this was part of our initial parenting experience.
