Newborn Diaper Disasters

S.B.
My husband and I were ready to be first time parents. We read the books, we watched the videos and did the birthing class. We were ready to tackle diapers - that was, until we met Hannah!

As a newborn, she really out tricked us. We'd smell that she had soiled her diaper and Daddy and I would run with her to the changing station. We thought we were being good parents changing that diaper right away. We often took off that diaper and "bam" she would go again - spraying poop everywhere. This is no exaggeration either! There was a time when she fully sprayed my husband's shirt and another time when I had to clean the entire nursery wall after she launched an explosive masterpiece on it!

We soon learned to have changing tactics. We would let her sit in her soiled diaper for a minute or two until she was fully done and we learned to put a new diaper underneath her right away! We thought we had outsmarted her - but little did we know poop would always be plaguing us.

We are now in the phase where we have "blowouts" you know where the poop is so forceful it sprays out the legs of the diaper or up the back. We sure go through a lot of laundry these days and I'm sure we have a whole more mess ahead of us as we go through those potty training years!
