Their website tells you that Newk's is "An express casual dining experience in a refreshing and stylish atmosphere with an emphasis on freshness and flavor." I really cannot think of a better way to sum up the atmosphere so there you go. We had never heard of Newk's and it goes without saying that this was our first visit. We were invited to eat there by friends at church. The place was busy but not overcrowded. You order your food at a checkout when you walk in and they give you a number to identify your table. They probably had our food out to us in less than 6 or 7 minutes. You do not have a lot of interaction with the staff (the only interaction came when ordering and when they brought us our food) when eating at Newk's but the staff was friendly.
My wife ordered the bowl of soup and half salad. The half salad was a Caesar and the soup was Lobster Crab Bisque. She said the Caesar salad was delicious but the she said the Lobster Crab Bisque was only okay. With that being said, she was comparing it to the bisque she had at Dinner in the Diner in Chattanooga, TN. I had the 10'' BBQ Chicken pizza. As someone who absolutely loves pizza, it did not disappoint. I would order it again in a heartbeat.
The total price of our meal was $22.05. This included the bowl of soup and half a salad plus the BBQ chicken pizza. This also included 2 soft drinks (a plastic cup comes with the drink and you get to keep this). We both felt it was an adequate amount of food but it was a little pricey. You can pay $22.00 at a place like Chili's and get all the chips and salsa you want. I would still recommend eating at Newk's at least once. It was a pleasant meal in a pleasant setting, just slightly overpriced.
