1. Working out without eating
Exercising on an empty stomach is extremely dangerous if you have diabetes. Actually, it's a bad idea even if you don't have diabetes. This is because once you start to exercise your body will need a surge of energy. It's going to start breaking down fuels in order to kick up your blood sugar but it will need to fuel fast. In other cases, your body would pull this fuel from fat. However, during exercise your body needs the fuel too fast to pull it from fat. This means that you better have had a recent meal or you will risk crashing your blood sugar, passing out, and serious injury.
2. Being too busy to eat breakfast.
Skipping breakfast is bad for your blood sugar, your waistline, and ultimately your health. Breakfast literally means breaking the fast between the last time you ate the night before and the start of the new day. No matter how late you may be running for work, you must find time to have breakfast. This will give your metabolism a boost as well as your blood sugar. Make sure that your breakfast is low in fat, low in carbs, and includes a low-fat protein source to ensure that your blood sugar doesn't go out of control.
3. Buying cheap food.
You may be a penny pincher, but now that you have been diagnosed with diabetes you will have to give first priority to what is healthy. This doesn't mean that healthy food has to cost a lot of money, but it does mean that you will have to avoid buying something just because it's the cheapest. Cheap food is cheap for a reason. It is usually the most processed, the highest in fat, and the highest in salt. This is because putting food through these processes gives it a longer shelf life. This gives the manufacturer and the store more time to sell the product which reduces the likelihood that they will lose money on a product. Therefore, be sure that you are buying foods without labels or foods that have been minimally processed so that you can maintain your weight, your heart health, and your blood sugar.
