Newly Emerged Butterfly

Just Born from a Chrysalis

ptosis
Just born from a chrysalis, a newly emerged butterfly unfolds it's damp and limp wings. Captured caterpillar on milkweed plant at the corner of Nu'uanu and Vineyard in Honolulu, Hawai'i, this butterfly is the chrysalis in a earlier video of caterpillar.

Last year, previously had a video of a butterfly drying it's wings, but missed the actual emergence. This year, camera was on and waited until the Monarch butterfly emerged out of it's chrysalis, (pupa), casing but it was a very quick emergence and video was out of focus.. See the video from oknmrt to watch a slow emergence.

Background music is Tambura Converted, (R.F.), described by creator Kaczinski, as "Tambura in the Key of Eb, Sound of a custom build string instrument, giving a drone in classical Indian music, sounding fuller than its idnian counterpart."

Previous videos were edited using Video Impression, This video edited with Video Edit Magic, which is slightly more complicated, but is very easy to learn for the person who has basic digital video editing experience. Original video in 640 format and used 'pan & zoom' effect to crop frame with a zoom-in. If the original had been in 320 format then zooming-in would have been pixalized with poor resolution.

Plan to write about Video Edit Magic, the special effects,(FX ), but need good quality original video format in order to achieve good results. On a Canon PowerShot A610, the highest resolution is 30 frames per second and 640x80 format. Special effects such as 'pan & zoom' need huge images to keep image quality when the final format is uploaded at 15 frames per second and 320x240 format. The special effect that is able to speed up video action or slow it down, appears 'choppy' in extreme slow motion.

See slow motion pow-wow dancer for example of a fast action 15 fps slowed down greatly and the resulting choppy result. But choppy is "poignant" - yes? Oh yes - it's my wabi-sabi SNAFU that expresses "serene melancholy and a spiritual longing." [wiki]
