Newly Reformulated Herbal Essences Dangerously Straight Shampoo & Conditioner: Product Review

Carol Bengle Gilbert
I agreed to sample newly reformulated Herbal Essences Dangerously Straight Shampoo and Conditioner before it hits store shelves because I thought it would be fun. I wasn't in the market for a new shampoo or conditioner. If I were, I undoubtedly wouldn't be looking for one that promised to make my hair straight as a pin. What my fine hair needs- and needs desperately- is body.

My 13 year old daughter, now she's another story. She has super thick hair and works tirelessly to make it lie flat. This seemed like the perfect product pair for her. So I decided to ask her to try the shampoo and conditioner, too, and write a review based on both of our experiences.

Herbal Essences Dangerously Straight: the Washing Experience

The washing experience with newly reformulated Herbal Essences Dangerously Straight Shampoo was unremarkable. It lathered nicely and washed out easily. Most shampoos I've tried do this, though I have met a few that didn't.

It annoyed me that the label said to wash, rinse, and wash and rinse again. I have always considered this a waste of shampoo. But to make sure I was giving the product a fair test, I followed these instructions the first time. The second time I washed and rinsed only once. My conclusion? It doesn't make a difference. Wash once and refrain from wasting shampoo.

Herbal Essences Dangerously Straight: the Conditioning Experience

The conditioning experience, like the washing experience, was pleasant but not unusual. I liked the way the conditioner washed out easily as I detest conditioners that feel like petroleum jelly and go oppositional when you try to rinse them out. But again, those sticky conditioners are few and far between.

I was eager to learn how powerful the conditioner's pear scent would be since that's the scent that those who got close to me would smell. The pear scent is very subtle, pleasing but almost unnoticeable after the conditioner is rinsed out.

Herbal Essences Dangerously Straight Results: How Did Our Hair Look and Feel?

While my hair was still wet, I was surprised at how light and silky it felt. The first time I used these products, I let my hair drip dry. My hair continued to feel light and silky as it dried but it assumed its natural slight wave. It was not straight as a pin.

The second time I tried these products, I used my normal post hair-wash routine. I added a bit of mousse to my hair and blow dried it. This time, I did find that the shampoo and conditioner made my hair much straighter than usual. Straight as a pin is an apt description. I loved the silky feel.

My initial suspicions that if this shampoo and conditioner worked as promised, it would be a perfect fit for my daughter were on target. Her reaction to Herbal Essences Dangerously Straight Shampoo and Conditioner?

"I love this stuff," she shouted. It tamed her thick mane and kept it from getting frizzy, a consideration that is all the more important here as spring and summer approach and high humidity overtakes us. She made it known that she will be very happy if I buy this brand regularly.

Great review! I also have thin hair that is curly, and at times frizzy. I am going to give this one a try. Thanks.
