Michael Moore Reaches Out to Americas Health Care Professionals for Answers

Patty Kay
My dad would refer to Michael Moore as a rebel rouser, others may consider him a trouble maker, and still others may make the claim that he is an eye opener to what is really going on in America. In either case, the man has guts. If we were all to take on just a small portion of his courage and boldness and put it into action to stop big business, get Washington's attention and let our leaders know what we really want and need, then maybe what's ailing America can be healed. After all, isn't America home of the free and land of the brave?

In his newly released video, Sicko, Moore takes a look at America's health care system and demands answers to the pick and choose attitude that is plaguing the medical clinics and hospitals here. When did the insurance companies get the power to decide what is an actual necessity and what isn't? When did they become more educated in the field of medicine? So, if I am to understand this correctly, the medical claims adviser at the medical insurance office has more clout and more education, more training, more fore sight and more comprehension to what is going on in the lives of the public then our doctor's. Well, when did that happen and what kind of degree do they hold?

Watch the video, you'll want to cry, scream, shout and at times laugh at the experiences of the people Moore interviews. For example; a young mother in her twenties was diagnosed with cancer by her medical professional, her claim to insurance was denied because they felt that she was too young to be diagnosed with cancer. Excuse me? Since when did cancer have an age limit? What is the age limit to being diagnose with cancer, does any one know?

Families are losing everything they own due to exorbitant medical costs and finding themselves living with other family members or on the streets. A major hospital on the west coast, actually takes patients that can't afford to pay their bills, puts them in a taxi and drops them off down town at a shelter, still wearing their hospital gowns. Disgusting! A clear example of the ole mighty dollar being more valuable then human life.

Here's a suggestion to all medical professionals; remember when you were a child and made the decision to go into medicine to help people? Maybe a family member, friend or neighbor had a bad experience that made you mad enough to want to do something about it. You made a promise to yourself that you would not allow yourself to fall into the trap of making money more important then human life and vowed to help everyone, no matter what income bracket they fell into.

So, why did you begin to allow pharmaceutical and the insurance companies to regulate the lives of people? You not only let down the lives of the patients you care for, your colleagues and the family and friends you started off helping, but you let yourself down too.

It's time to bring back the dream that got you into the profession you chose in the first place. Take a stand, find your voice and speak up for your patients. Stop allowing the money to regulate how or why you make medical decisions and put that fortitude and drive into caring for America's citizens. You are the key to making a huge change in America, and set precedence for how it's citizens are cared for and how much is spent on medical, and prescription cost.

If the Veteran's Hospitals can charge their patients a $8.00 co-pay and if Wal-mart can charge a $4.00 co-pay for medications, then it is apparent that every pharmacy in every city of every state in America, can charge far less as well. If third world counties can offer free medical care to their citizen's and America is suppose to be the richest country, then we can offer free, top of the line, medical attention to our citizen's as well.

Priorites in America have become jumbled, people have been mis-lead and beaten into submission and big business is what is controling our lives. STOP!
Enough is enough already. You matter, I matter, we all matter and it is time that we take control of our lives and make changes that affect not only ourselves, but our neighbors. You know, the whole love thy neighbor command that our God instructed us to follow. It's more then the guy next door, it's every human life on this planet.
