Newlyweds Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Pete Wentz Expecting First Baby

Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and her new husband Pete Wentz recently confirmed that they are expecting their first baby. The statement from the newlyweds gave no due date for the baby, but indicated that Simpson-Wentz just finished her first trimester, which suggests this rock star baby will be making its stage debut in early December 2008.

Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Pete Wentz wed on May 17, 2008 amid a flurry of baby rumors. The baby buzz was denied by Wentz, Simpson-Wentz, their families, and their publicists, but the reports had persisted.

Ashlee-Simpson Wentz had her first big break in a recurrent role on the tv series 7th Heaven from 2002-2004. She has gone on to produce 3 albums: Autobiography, I Am Me, and Bittersweet World. Autobiography debuted as the #1 U.S album in July 2004, and was certified triple platinum in September 2004. While it did well commercially it met with mixed reviews critically. I Am Me was released in the U.S in October 2005 and also debuted as a #1 album, but it did not achieve the same level of commercial success for Simpson-Wentz as Autobiography.

After the release of her second CD Simpson-Wentz stated that she wanted to focus on her acting career and would be taking a break from singing before recording her next album. During this break she received critical acclaim for her portrayal of Roxie Hart in the musical Chicago on the London stage. Simpson-Wentz' third CD, Bittersweet World, was released on April 22, 2008 in the U.S. and has met with mixed reviews. It debuted only as a number #4 album and its sales have been lackluster.

Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Pete Wentz, bassist for the rock band Fall Out Boys, were first linked in late 2006. They announced their engagement on April 9, 2008. The Simpson-Wentz engagement was surrounded by baby speculation and the speed of their wedding only served to encourage the gossip mill before the official baby announcement. Simpson-Wentz announced after the wedding that she was changing her name to Ashlee Wentz and would use the name Ashlee Simpson-Wentz professionally. The official confirmation that the newlywed couple is expecting a baby was posted on the Fall Out Boys website.

"While many have speculated about this, we wanted to wait until after the first trimester to officially confirm that we are expecting our first child. This is truly the most joyous time in our lives and we are excited to share the happy news and start our family."
