Eight California fires are burning wild and threatening homes in four counties. A state of emergency has been declared by California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is urging residents of Los Angeles, Mariposa, Monterey, and to pay attention to law enforcement evacuation instructions. Over 130 square miles have been consumed by the fires. Nearly 20 homes have been lost and around 12,000 are in jeopardy.
Florida Man to Plead Guilty to Conspiracy Charges
Eight-four counts of criminal charges against Efraim Diveroli, age 23, will be dropped in exchange for pleading guilty to conspiring to unlawfully distribute Chinese ammo to Afghan armed forces. Instead of facing a possible five-year prison sentence, Diveroli will be charged only $250,000.
Eight People Killed in Georgia Home Attack
Eight people were killed this weekend in a Georgia mobile home park attack. A 911 call was made Saturday morning, by Guy Heinze who reported that seven members of his family were apparently beaten to death and two others were hardly breathing. A $25,000 reward is offered for individuals having information on the attack. The 911 tape was released Monday.
Man Involved in 1993 Chicago Restaurant Murder Faces Trial
In 1993, a brutal attack at a Chicago restaurant left seven employees dead. Now, James Degorski faces trial for his murderous crime. In 2007, Juan Luna, Degorski's partner in crime was tried, convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment. Degorski was arrested in May 2002.
Three Missing Boaters Rescued after Eight Day Ordeal in Gulf of Mexico
Early Sunday morning, three men returned home after a long, hard struggle in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The three boaters were stranded after their boat capsized. For eight days, the men waited atop their capsized boat for rescue. A sport fishing boat rescued them on Saturday. Monday, Tressel Hawkins recounted the hardships they faced in the water, but states that he knew they would survive the situation.
Police Search Home of Couple Accused of Kidnapping
Jaycee Dugard, a woman who was kidnapped 18 years ago, had been residing in her abductors backyard since she was taken. At this time, police are searching the home of suspects Phillip and Nancy Garrido. The couple has pleaded not guilty to three charges against them: abduction, imprisonment, and rape.
Fashion Designer Faces Life in Prison for Sexual Assaulting Aspiring Models
Anand Jon Alexander, fashion designer, was convicted November 14, 2008 of sexually assaulting aspiring models in Los Angeles. Some of those sexually abused models are children. Alexander faces sexual assault charges in New York as well. He could face life in prison.
Texas Murder Trial is delayed-waiting for DNA Test Results
Levi King, age 26, charged with the 2005 murder of expectant mother Michelle Conrad, her husband, and son, is waiting for DNA results. Until DNA test results are received, King's trial is postponed. Last year, King confessed to murdering two Missouri women. He was sentenced to two life sentences.
