Recently, the Mamma Mia! Star Amanda Seyfried confirmed that there are in fact current plans for a sequel to the Mamma Mia! Film release of 2008. She gave the following information to Newsbeat directly according to BB:
"I've been talking to some insiders and it's not something that they haven't been working on. I don't actually know anything other than that. I know it's still going to be Abba music, because what else would it be. Come on, I wouldn't do Mamma Mia 2 without Benny and Bjorn...I think we all had the best time and we all got along so well. It was like some days it felt like we were just people on vacation. I will do it. And I know Meryl's game as well, so bring it on. It will be so cool."
The 2008 film release of Mamma Mia! which starred Amanda Seyfried, Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth grossed over $500,000,000 worldwide, making it the highest grossing film musical of all time. The DVD itself even made over $30 million on the first day of its release. It even beats Titanics recent DVD release success, which had gone untouched for over 10 years.
Mamma Mia! tells the story of a young girl named Sophie (played by Amanda Seyfried) who is getting married. She lives with her mother, Donna (played by Meryl Streep). Donna owns a small hotel on a Greek island. Donna invites two of her closest friends, Tonya and Rosie, who were also in a band they all used to be in called Donna and the Dynamos. Sophie had recently discovered a journal that told of the three men that had visited the island whom her mother Donna had had relationships with. She realizes that one of them must be her father, and secretly invites them to the wedding without telling her mother. Sophie has hopes of her father being able to walk her down the aisle. They all show up on the eve of Sophie's wedding, and it turns into chaos as she tries to hide them all from her mother, whilst discovering which one is her father. The entire musical aspect of the film consists of songs from the band ABBA.
