News from a Weird World is in Jeopardy Feedback Requested
My Weekly Series Cannot Continue Unless Something Changes
If you read my articles you are almost certainly aware of my News From A Weird World series that I publish every Wednesday, and have been doing so since February 2010.
Despite people leaving wonderful comments to say how much they enjoy these offbeat news stories, the articles have never attracted a lot of visitors unfortunately, despite my best efforts to promote them.
In the last six months I have changed the name from the much used "Offbeat News" to "News From A Weird World", and taken guidance from Marie Anne St. Jean as well, changing the initial paragraphs and the format of the articles.
Traffic was beginning to build up, however in the last two months, probably since Google changed things around, the traffic has dropped to a level where it's just not worth the effort to write these.
It takes me several hours of research to find articles to report on, then to write my take on each news story, but when I find that having published the article, I only have 60 page views, it's really depressing.
If I analyze the page views, let's say that the average reader reads the first 3 pages of each article, and then leaves a comment. That's 4 page views each, which means that very likely only 15 people have seen what I have written, and I know that they are almost certainly from Yahoo Contributor Network because of their comments.
Very often articles take a day or two before they are indexed in the search engines, but when I find that even by the weekend my total page views for the latest article are struggling to reach 100, I have to ask what I am doing wrong.
If changing the name, creating a new logo, and improving the format isn't helping, and things are just slumping, maybe it's just better if I forget the whole thing and spend my time trying to write something that is going to be profitable.
The last two days my total page views on YCN were under 200 per day, which for close to 700 articles is very very sad indeed.
So finally, I ask for suggestions as to what I ought to do with News From A Weird World?
Should I just ditch it and spend my time writing something else?
Should I try and publish it elsewhere, for example Qondio, Redgage, Bukisa etc?
Should I change the format and/or name yet again and see what happens?
How about publishing five shorter articles instead of one that has five stories?
Any feedback that you leave will be much appreciated. Of course if only 15 people read this, I won't be in the least bit surprised.

Don't give up, Tony. I'll try to throw some backlinks your way to improve your results from my own blogs and maybe a future HubPages hub. I agree with Darren, there are different reasons for writing, and in the end if you need to garner more income from your writing, then you may need to sacrifice the fun stuff. Maybe go to publishing NFAWW monthly instead of weekly?
looks like you've received some good advice, about splitting them up into single articles, but I wouldn't know, as my pvs have never been great, but I do enjoy reading your news of the weird!
I have enjoyed this series of articles, but I don't have any advice for you. But keep in mind that you are not the only one who has decreased pvs. Almost everyone at AC has been having lower pvs.
I hope you continue this in some form. I always read it and comment. I write because I enjoy it and don't get many page views, so I guess I gave up on the income aspect a long time ago. Therefore, I don't have much advice for you there. Sorry.
Tony - lots of good suggestions here. Whatever you do, don't leave. Maybe break it into several different articles - and if everyone leaves a comment - it's an additional PV. I dunno. I enjoy it but I know you're working towards increasing traffic. Cheers :)
Nicely Written, thank you
great article.
I also agree with Leroy Coffie. Definitely try publishing each story as an individual article, and then at the end you could link to each of the others under a heading of "More Weird News," or something like that.
I have to agree with Leroy. I would try shortening each story and turn what you are now putting into one, into two or three. I would not write it in a longer format than 700 words. I'm certainly not an expert at this thing by any means - still trying to figure out how to drive traffic myself, but, for me, shortening most of my stories and keeping them focused on one topic has seemed to increase traffic somewhat.
