Newt Gingrich Launches Non Partisan American Solutions Campaign
American Solutions for Winning the Future Aims to Bust Partisan Gridlock
As the horses lined up for the presidential campaign starting gates some thought Newt's hat would be in the ring. But Newt has gone off on a tangent and never made that run. Instead, he's sending out letters and making the circuit for his new organization, "American Solutions For Winning the Future". In recent mass-mailings, American Solutions is asking for donations and survey returns while pointing recipients to its web site, books, e-Newsletter, and other resources to build an army of conservative-minded citizens intent on changing the way our government operates.
While the material touts non-partisanship, it is obviously conservative oriented. If non-partisanship is defined as not siding with Republicans or Democrats, then American Solutions is non-partisan. The tone and message is that both our primary political parties are mired in impotence and have no ability to effect real change.
Newt could have gone off and started a third party, but history has taught us that third parties are never going to amount to much more than spoilers which steal Democrat or Republican votes. The result is always a win for the party most opposed to the third party's ideals. I say that even as I serve as the state Chair for the American Patriot Party of Texas, a conservative political third party I joined after leaving the Republican party in disgust early in this election campaign. I joined the American Patriot Party because I decided henceforth I will vote my conscience, not as Ambrose Bierce said: "the evil of two lessors".
Unfortunately, that means my vote will count for naught, or worse, will count against the slightly more conservative Republicans since they are the lesser of the two evils in my mind.
And that's why I'm intrigued by Newt's new organization. It might just be the ray of light piercing the darkness that I and many others have hoped for. It's not a third political party. It is an organization intent on creating change starting at the local level and building up and out in momentum until it influences and changes the highest levels of American government and society. Sounds great, doesn't it? Yeah, if you're a true conservative like me. If you're a liberal, you should be quaking in your boots and running to move-on.org screaming warnings of impending doom.
Newt is no idiot, and if he gets enough momentum and people behind him, conservatives may just recover from the damage the Republican turn-coats have done to them and put this country back on track... if he's sincere.
Newt's letter pleading for folks to donate to and participate in American Solutions points out the mess that the Republicans and Democrats have gotten us into, and says, "We do not believe electing one or two more officials will change this. Neither do we believe politics as usual by either the Democrats or the Republicans will change this." It goes on to point out that our next president won't be able to change it, either. Regardless of whether it's Obama or McCain.
American Solutions initially targeted scholars, political analysts, and reporters. It believes these are the people who have the initial influence needed to start changing things in the 513,000 elected offices in municipalities, states, and the federal government. The American revolution began with the press. Why not? Our founding fathers had the foresight to make our first amendment the freedom of speech. Perhaps just for such a time as this.
In the past I've had my doubts about Newt Gingrich. Sometimes he comes across slimy, like a crooked car salesman. Other times (actually most of the time) he seems sincere and genuine to me. Maybe American Solutions is just a medium for Newt to keep raking in a big salary as chair of a massive non-profit.
Then again, maybe he and his organization are genuinely interested in fixing what is wrong with the Republicans and Democrats.
I'm not sending my money to him yet...but he nearly has me convinced. I'm watching and researching first. Hopefully you are, too.

Post a CommentI do support Newt Gingrich. He believes in the orginal conservatism of our fore fathers such as George Washington, Lincoln, Samuel Adams, Thomas Jefferson and yes Ben Franklin, If you do not believe me please get a copy of the original constitution, Declaration of Independance and Bill of Rights and read the later of them when these men signed it. You may be surprised just how much wisdon from on High these gentlemen had.
What Newt is trying to do is another approach to reach heartfelt Democracts, Replublican and yes those in between. Newt has been there and made his dues but he on the right track and I pray you all will support this man in his honest efforts. He is working not as a politician but as an American citizen, yes.

In spite of his faults (and who does NOT have them?), I like the guy! I think he's a better Libertarian than a Republican, though! Isn't it funny how folks like him keep getting shut out of the process? Maybe they realize he doesn't wanna "play ball"!
Your 3rd to last Para is how I see Newt. And I agree with your analysis of alternate parties' effects in the past but wonder if it's time for that to change. Two parties just isn't working. Marindavid's comment is also hysterical and so well put.
LOL! Funny point!
Party affiliations and politics notwithstanding, I think it would be very difficult to cast a Presidential vote for a man named after a small salamander who lives under the soggy droppings in dark, damp forests. According to Wikipedia:
The Newt is an amphibian of the Salamandridae family, order Urodela or Caudata, found in North America, Europe, and Asia. Their eggs are laid singly in ponds or slow-moving streams, attached to aquatic plants. This distinguishes them from the free-floating eggs of frogs, that are laid in clumps, or toads, that are laid in strings. The larvae leave the water as a terrestrial form called an eft, returning to the water when mature to live or to breed. The adult form has a lizard-like body and is either aquatic or semi-aquatic.
Doesn't sound like someone I would vote for.
After all, what were his parents thinking? And what does it tell us about their and his own genetic propensities?!
