Looks or Talent?

If you are a fan of American Idol then you have probably been glued to the television for weeks now. Season 9 is now well underway with the stakes rising higher and higher every week. The question on the minds of many music connoisseurs is why so many talented people are going home when it is glaringly apparent that some with no talent whatsoever are staying?

Shocking

Many American Idol fans were shocked when Big Mike was in fact slated to go home last week, the judges thankfully saved him but by the looks of voting this week, he will not be around much longer. Again, in the bottom three Mike is still hanging on while one of the worst contestants is still sitting on the couch safe. This week we said goodbye to Katie Stevens and Andrew Garcia but smiling Teflon Tim Urban is gearing up for another performance. Is America voting for talent or looks?

Tim Urban

Let's face it folks Tim is cute and he is good, but he aint all that! It reminds you a great deal of season 6 when Sanjaya Malakar stuck around to finish 7th in the competition even though the judges and anyone with ears could tell he did not have what it takes to be the next American Idol. If you were shocked by the fact that he made it so far, you will be further blown away by the ratings drop of 9% for the week after he was voted off American Idol. Tim should be on his way out but with the history of this shows voting results, you can never be too sure!

Tim is cute, adorable and he is not without some talent but you cannot listen to his performances to date and honestly say he is better than Katie Stevens or Didi Benami! It is not totally clear that he performed better than Andrew Garcia did, however that would be debatable.

Good News

The good news is you do not have to win American Idol to become successful. It may be a fast track way to fame and glory but studies have shown that many Idol contestants that did not take the title have gone on to more successful careers than the winner. Chris Daughtry being a primary example of that little fact. Daughtry has become more successful than most of the winners on American Idol and when he released his solo album it was the fastest selling album in rock and roll history.

As the success of eliminated contestants continues to make the news, American Idol fans can relax and root for their favorite contestants. Jennifer Hudson did not make the final stage of the competition but you can bet her Academy Award for her role in Dream Girls has more than eased her disappointment. So choose your American Idol and do not fret when they go home, if they truly have star capacity within them they will rise to the top despite the mercurial voting habits of teenage girls.

Great article Brenda, I don't watch the show but I love reading about the people on it.

I wonder why they wasted a save on Big Mike, if he is only going to be booted out anyway.. I am thinking he was saved because he was the only black person left.. I kind of felt some of the black people who were booted were as good or better than some of those still there. Why waste a save on someone who will end up going home anyway... there are others better than he is. He's great.. but he doesn't always wow me anymore.
