Nexus One Support Problems Rain on Google's Parade

If you visit the Nexus One support center on Google.com, there's a link offering an opportunity to "See what other Android users are saying". But when it comes to getting help for their Nexus One Problems, what they're saying is not good.

According to reports by CNET and Mashable, the support requests for their new "superphone" (the name Google execs like to use), are straining Google's fragile online help system, which consists of a network of forums,FAQ's, and email forms, the latter taking up to two days to provide a response. Those looking to HTC or T-Mobile for help are just passed back to Google.

And Nexus One customers aren't too happy about it either. One user on the Google mobile help forum had this to say:

"How do I return the Nexus One?

I really do not have the time or patience to deal with Google's phantom customer service.

If things are this bad now it will only get worse."

Another user had this to say:

"Ya I've definitely had time to think twice now about getting rid of my iPhone.. Google is really spreading themselves thin here. What a sham this all is for sure. A cooperation of smart motivated geniuses trying to take over the universe with not even a single store front or a phone number to show for it."

While many have heralded Google's efforts to shake up the mobile phone world with their open source-style direct sales model, their support system is not translating well from free open source software, over to $500 smartphones. Google is learning that people will not have the same tolerance level dealing with expensive phones, as they would have dealing with a GMail problem.

As Apple Insider points out, Apple has already raised the bar too high for Google's current tactics to work:

"Apple has faced some issues at each launch of new iPhone models, but had resources in place to handle those issues based on its decades-long experience in selling and supporting consumer electronics."
