Nexxus Emergencee or Aphoghee 2-Step Treatment for Severe Hair Breakage: Which Product is Best?

Stacy J. Day
I have had trouble with hair loss since about the age of 14 or 15. In the beginning, my hair loss was minimal and confined to one area of my head, but the older I got, the more severe my hair loss became. My hair loss, which includes bald spots (luckily I have some tricks up my sleeve and can hide them well) thinning and breakage, are a result of lupus and over-processing (I had been putting in relaxers at home and stupidly re-relaxing all my hair instead of just the new growth). Even after I was diagnosed with lupus in 2008, as long as I had my hair professionally styled, my hair loss was kept to a minimum, but ever since I've been unable to go to the salon, the state of my hair has deteriorated rapidly. I knew that if I didn't want to end up with less hair than my husband, who is practically bald, I had to do something fast. In a panic, I immediately started researching black hair and how to stop the breakage. I read various blogs, forums and sites dedicated strictly to black hair and after my research, I went to work on my hair.

The first thing I did was purchase some Aphogee 2-Step Treatment for damaged hair. Although the 2-step treatment was pricey, I was sure to purchase the balancing moisturizer that is supposed to be used after the first product. Although I spent about $30 for both products, which was pricey to me since I hadn't had much luck with products working well in the past, I quickly forgot about how much I spent and headed home to hopefully revive my lifeless hair. I followed the instructions by first washing my hair and then saturating it with the Aphogee 2-Step Treatment. As instructed, I then got under the dryer and stayed there until the product had dried completely. My hair was extremely stiff and hard and I refrained from manipulating it in any way. After drying it, I rinsed the product out, applied the balancing moisturizer, which I left on for 2 - 3 minutes and then rinsed it out as well. I had read reviews of people whose hair loss ceased immediately after this treatment, but it only seemed to make mine worse. I was disappointed and frustrated. Would anything ever stop my hair loss? I was beginning to lose hope.

Desperate to find a product that would stop my hair loss before I became completely bald, I continued my extensive research on black hair and I came across another product: Nexxus Emergencee Reconstructor. I read a posting on a message board about a woman who claimed that her hair loss also became worse after using the Aphogee 2-Step Treatment. After using the Nexxus Emergencee reconstructor, her hair loss had stopped. Even though it was another $15 for the reconstructor from my local Walgreens, as well as an additional $5 for the Nexxus shampoo, and even more for the conditioner, I shelled out more cash in hopes of stopping my horrible and embarrassing hair loss, with severe breakage being the worse of my hair troubles.

I didn't have much hope when I used the Nexxus products, but to my total and utter surprise, my hair loss has stopped, and only after one treatment! I combed through my hair several times and I was floored-no hair was in the comb! I have spent hundreds of dollars on various products over the years, in search of the perfect product to immediately revive damaged hair and this product is the one. This product promises to repair and strengthen hopelessly damaged hair and it did that and more! My hair is shinier, stronger, and it's actually staying on my head instead of ending up in the sink, shower or on my clothes. I would pay $50 for this awesome product if I had to.

I'm not saying that Aphogee 2-Step Treatment isn't a good product, because I used it years ago and I don't remember it making my hair loss worse. I even remember a hair dresser using it on my hair in a salon and never having any ill effects from it. I believe that my hair was so damaged that the Aphogee was simply more than my delicate hair could handle. The Nexxus Emergencee was gentler on my hair as it worked its magic. I've read Aphogee 2-Step Treatment reviews, and like the Nexxus Emergencee, customers have been pleased. Although I'm going to stick with the Nexxus Emergencee right now, I would recommend either product to anyone suffering from severe hair damage and will probably use the Aphogee again in the future, provided my hair isn't in quite as bad a shape as it is currently. Another great thing about both products is that they can be used on any hair type and not just ethnic hair.

You can purchase Aphogee products from just about any beauty supply, as well as Sally's, and Nexxus Emergencee can be found at Walgreens or CVS. You can also purchase either product from amazon.com.
