Nexxus Humectress Vs. Suave Humectant Moisture

K. F. Lynn
Hair junkies rejoice! Why do we have to spend so much money to get nice, soft, shiny hair? Copycat products end up getting us in way more trouble and we end up spending just as much as we would have if we had just bought the high-end version to begin with. The good news is that there is a fairly new line, Suave Humectant Moisture, that is actually comparable (in the good way) to what it claims to be: the famed, ever-popular Nexxus Humectress line of products. The Nexxus products cost about $20 per bottle and I hate to say it, but they really do work better when used as a set (those sneaks at Nexxus). How can we afford to spend $40 on a bottle of conditioner and deep conditioner? Outrageous! Well, how does spending less than $8 sound? Fantastic? That's what I thought!

If you aren't familiar with Suave hair products, I am about to be brutally honest. Before now, I was hardly impressed by their soupy conditioners, drying conditioners, and sticky, plastic gels. They simply never worked and usually ended up making my hair look and feel worse than before I washed it. Way to make me eat my words, Suave Professionals!

First thing first: Humectress, love you as I do, spending $20 per bottle is a little hard to justify. Suave Humectant products cost between $2-4 per bottle, depending upon where you are. I picked mine up for about $4 in my local CVS. 1/5 the cost of the original? Yes, please!

Suave's Humectant Moisture line consists of a shampoo and a conditioner. The Nexxus Humectress line consists of conditioners, deep conditioners, and leave-in conditioning treatments. Personally, I prefer having a shampoo in my regimen (although I have done the conditioner-only treatment during dry summer or winter weeks). Not having a shampoo may not be a deal-breaker by any means, but Suave Humectant gets a check from me in this category, too.

Now, on to what I know you're most interested in: do these products actually work? The short answer is yes. For my hair in particular, Humectant actually works better than Humectress. The formula feels identical in my hands, but feels silky washing out whereas Humectress made my hair feel dry and stringy upon washout. After using this set for almost a month, I have noticed a definite beautiful change in my hair. It's much softer, shinier and holds moisture beautifully. I will note that I don't use any additional products besides coconut oil, so I have been assured that the Humectant is to credit! I'm sold, Suave. You got me, you crafty foxes.

It seems like the search for legitimate hair products that actually work and don't break the bank is never-ending. What bothers me even more than shelling out 40 bucks on shampoo that makes un-keepable promises? Shelling out money on products that claim to be comparable to another, higher-end product. I can't begin to tell you how many times I've used these "comparable" products only to find that the only way I can compare the two products is that the one I bought for a lower price is pure crap. Have you found a good duplicate product recently? Let's hear them!

I love the Suave copy-cat more than Nexus. I used Nexus for years until I just couldn't afford it anymore :( Then went my two year search for a comparable shampoo/conditioner. It just didn't happen until I stumbled upon the Suave creation while looking for kids shampoo!!! I am so happy with the results. It smells and feels the same, and I agree with the 'stringy' feeling while rinsing out the Nexus. I didn't have any problems with Suave. I also found I that I can get both Shampoo and Conditioner for $5 at my local wal-mart. Thanking my lucky stars for this. Before, I hated suave, now I can't praise them enough!!!
