The Dallas Cowboys have a total of eleven picks this year in the draft, an ample amount for a team in the Draft. However, more than half of these come in the fifth round or later. The further you go down in a draft, normally, the less talented the players get. Many fans hope that this will not be a drawback for the Cowboys this year. This does not detract from their needs this year. The three main areas needed, according to several websites, are offensive tackle, corner back, and safety.
The main reason for going for an offensive tackle is that the current offensive line is getting old, and replacing the outgoing players with talented young players would be a step in the right direction. By going ahead and doing this, the Dallas Cowboys are guaranteeing a strong future for their team. Although the team has their first pick in the second round, there are still some talented options. With players like A.Q. Shipley and Andrew Gardner, the Cowboys have a few decisions. According to bleacherreport.com, William Beatty, measuring 6'6" and weighing 307 lbs. would be the best choice for them. Some one that big and menacing would be a definite addition to any team.
With Pacman Jones no longer being a member of the team, corner back is another position that needs to be filled. With their second pick being in the third round, the options for the team begin to dwindle. With names like Glover Quin, Donald Washington, and Asher Allen, the Cowboys have a few options at their disposal but not many.
Safety is another important position that needs to be replaced as Roy Williams in no longer a part of the team. Although they have signed Gerald Sensabuagh, the Dallas Cowboys need other players to fill in the holes at the position. There are only twenty three safeties in the Draft this year, so the Cowboys do a few choices. But they also need to be careful with their choices and not jump at a safety that may not be that talented. They need to analyze their choices carefully to make sure they are making a good decision for this season and for each season forward.
Although the Cowboys have a few choices in this Draft, they are primarily in the later rounds. With some careful planning and decision making, the Dallas Cowboys can make this a Draft worthwhile. By having talent for the future, and young people to let the veterans rest their bodies, the Cowboys can move from a mediocre team to a great team.
