There's a full sixteen game schedule for opening week of the 2011 NFL regular schedule...Green Bay hosts New Orleans in the Thursday night opening game from Lambeau Field which will be broadcast on NBC at 8:30 pm EDT. Opening week has some big match ups between playoff teams and long time rivals. Pittsburgh visits Baltimore, New England visits Miami, and the New York Giants visit Washington. Check out interesting trivia and team stories by clicking the highlighted links.
There are new looks for some teams with Minnesota having Donovan McNabb leading them at quarterback. Carolina has Cam Newton at quarterback and everyone is interested to see how they do with him or if he'll get all the snaps at quarterback: the Panthers visit Arizona opening week so Newton will have a great shot at winning his first NFL start. The Redskins have a quarterback controversy that is being processed by their coaching staff and we're all trying to figure who'll emerge at quarterback.
New England is at Miami opening week in one of two Monday night games: Miami had all kinds of problems in front of the home crowd last year and the Pats aren't an average opponent. What will the Dolphins decide to do at quarterback. Some think the issue hasn't been decided. Tampa Bay looks good in their opening game at home against Detroit who is being touted to be a playoff team though they can't win a road game for anything for the last several years. Josh Freeman at Tampa Bay should have an exciting opening week against the Lions one would expect.
Seattle goes to San Fran in a 4:15 PM EDT start for the two West coast teams. Seattle lost their quarterback Matt Hasselbeck to the Tennessee Titans and they have reportedly filled their ranks with full time back up quarterbacks. Maybe they're sliding down hill in the very weak West. But being weak in their company doesn't necessarily mean they're losers...they might emerge as a playoff team considering the meek competition.
Here's the Week 1 match ups.
