NFL Draft 2007: Leonard Leads Fullbacks

Unwillingly, Leonard is Easily the Top Fullback on Everyones List

Back in "The Day," a fullback was a huge, slow, straight-ahead grinder. However, in today's game, the fullback needs to be versatile and agile. Fullbacks are often called upon to do more than just block for their glory-hungry halfbacks. Because of the limited number of NFL prospects at this position, I have listed only the top five options at the position, with very brief blurbs for most.

5. Cory Anderson -- Tennessee, 6-3, 260, 4.75 (40-yard dash) With all of the tools, he will open some eyes in camp.

4. Jason Snelling -- Virginia, 5-10, 234, 4.85 He will be a tremendous lead blocker for some team.

3. Deon Anderson -- Connecticut, 5-10, 230, 4.7 He needs to bulk up.

2. LeRon McClain -- Alabama, 6-0, 265, 4.9 He is simply a load.

1. Brian Leonard -- Rutgers, 6-1, 240, 4.6

Leonard is holding hopes of becoming a halfback at the highest level. He has been labeled a tweener by more than one GM, lacking size of a full back and the speed of a halfback. To complicate scouts' thinking even more, Leonard brings great receiving skills to draft day. The team lucky enough to grab this rare talent at the position will hopefully employ the former Scarlett Knight into the passing scheme. If Leonard can dedicate himself to either position, expect a lengthy, productive career.
