NFL Fantasy Football 2009 Preview: the Top 5 Indianapolis Colts to Draft

Rolando Cruz
Love them or hate them, the Indianapolis Colts are always a favorite of Fantasy Football owners come draft day. With Peyton Manning and a trio of receivers that rival any in the NFL, it's hard to go wrong with a few well placed Colts on your team. Here then are the top five Colts to go after in the 2009 NFL Fantasy Football Draft.

Peyton Manning (QB)

When it comes to Fantasy Football, nobody in the last 10 years has been more consistent than Peyton Manning. In 2009 Manning registered his 9th season of passing for over 4,000 yards, and his 11th in a row in which he has thrown for at least 26 touchdowns. Though his favorite target, Marvin Harrison is no longer with the team, look for Manning to continue in the same vein of success. A solid first round draft pick if you can get him, Peyton Manning is always a Fantasy Football sure thing.

Dallas Clark (TE)

Clark, the team's first round draft pick in 2003, had a huge year last season, catching 77 passes for 848 yards and six touchdowns. Those numbers should take a slight upturn in the absence of Marvin Harrison this season, which will place him along side of the elites for the position. Let other teams fight for Gonzalez, Witten and Gates, Clark's number will be on par with them and he will not cost you half as much.

Reggie Wayne (WR)

Wayne is the heir-apparent to the throne vacated by the departed Marvin Harrison, and this star receiver out of the University of Miami is up to the task. Wayne is coming off a season in which he caught 82 passes for 1145 yards, and is only two years removed from a monster 2007 season in which he gained 1,510 yards. If Clark benefits this year from Harrison's departure, so will Wayne.

Joseph Addai (RB)

After posting two straight 1,000 yard rushing years to start his career, injuries kept Addai from repeating the feat in 2008, leaving him with just 544 in 12 games. Still, Addai is worth a gamble, especially if the injuries he suffered last season can keep other owners from taking him early in the draft. Add to that the fact that Addai catchs passes out of the backfield, and that he has scored 30 touchdowns in his first three seasons in the league, and you have a dark horse favorite.

Anthony Gonzalez (WR)

Gonzalez is set to have a break out season. If any receivers this year comes with a great upside it's this former first round out of the University of Ohio. Look for Gonzalez to improve on the 54 catches for 664 yards he had last season. Expecting a 70 catch, 1,000 yard, and six touchdown season is not out of the question for this elusive receiver.
