NFL Fantasy Football 2009: Top 5 Green Bay Packers to Draft

Rolando Cruz
Despite the fact that the Green Bay Packers are coming off a 6-10 season, the team has plenty of talent to offer Fantasy Football owners this year. The Packer's offense put up 419 points last season (good for 5th in the league), and on defense, a ball hawking secondary returned 6 interceptions for touchdowns. With Green Bay set to improve on their 2008 record this year, here then are the top 5 Packers to go after in a Fantasy Football Draft.

Aaron Rodgers (QB):

Rodgers stepped into the void left by Brett Favre and had an outstanding season. The former first round draft pick threw for 4,038 yards and 28 touchdowns, and added 207 yards and 4 touchdowns rushing. With a good crop of receivers to throw to, 2009 should be more of the same for Rodgers. Already one of the top 5 or 6 quarterbacks available in the draft, you can expect numbers in the +3,800 yards, +25 touchdowns from Aaron Rodgers this season.

Greg Jennings (WR):

Greg Jennings steadily blossomed into one of the best young receivers in the league last season collecting 80 passes for 1,292 yards and 9 touchdowns along the way. Jennings' season included six games in which he topped the 100 yard mark, and a September in which he racked up 482 yards in four games. Look for Jennings to go in the top 4 rounds of the draft.

Ryan Grant (RB):

Ryan Grant, the undrafted running back from Notre Dame, who had a marvelous rookie season in 2007, was a workhorse for the Packers in 2008. Grant carried the ball 313 times last season for 1,203 yards. Though he got off to a slow start, having two games where he carried 15 times for only 20 yards in September, Grant was a steady performer over the last 12 games of the season. With running backs at a premium, look for Grant to go in the first 3 rounds of the draft.

Donald Driver (WR):

Driver has been Green Bay's steadiest receiver since coming into the league in 1999. Since then, Driver has gown over the 1,000 yard mark in six out of his last seven seasons. At 34, Driver's best seasons are behind him, but another season in the 900-1,000 yard range should be within his reach this year.

Mason Crosby (K):

Despite playing his home games in Green Bay, Crosby has posted 268 points for the Packers over the last two seasons. The steady kicker from Colorado has hit on 58 out 73 field goal attempts, and made all of his 94 extra point attempts. Crosby has also converted on 6 out of 11 kicks from outside 50 yards and is as good a Fantasy Football kicker as you will find this year.
