NFL Fantasy Football Week One: Wide Receivers

Jason Hargreaves
More and more, wide receivers are becoming the staples of a successful NFL fantasy football franchise. In PPR (point per reception) leagues they are the players you agonize over when drafting your team. Well, week 1 of the NFL football season is complete and we have the best and worst of the first week to review.

Success #1 - Reggie Wayne - Indianapolis Colts

Reggie Wayne has been among the NFL's elite receivers for several years now and it looks as if he will pull off another successful campaign. In the season opener he grabbed ten balls for 162 yards and reached the end-zone once. Peyton Manning looks prepped to lead another charge towards the Super Bowl, so Reggie Wayne will continue to produce.

Success #2 - Randy Moss - New England Patriots

Randy Moss and Tom Brady are back. They connected 12 times on Monday night for a total of 141 yards. Thought Moss failed failed to score, the performance still ranked him third among NFL receivers in standard scoring leagues. Moss will be lining up against the Jets next week and should have another solid outing.

Success #3 - Devry Henderson - New Orleans Saints

This weeks recipient of the rocket Drew Brees calls an arm was the talented Devry Henderson. Henderson caught 5 of those passes for 103 yards and a score. He is available in a large percentage of leagues right now and should be scooped up if he's on the wire in yours. For other possible wireacquisitions, check out my article on the topic.

Failure #1 - Anquan Boldin - Arizona Cardinals

Boldin was a known risk going into the week due to a hamstring injury. He was unable to get anything going over the weekend and only managed 2 catches for 19 yards. Boldin will still be a solid receiver for you this year, so I wouldn't be too worried by a single bad performance.

Failure #2 - Eddie Royal - Denver Broncos

Eddie Royal, the rising star in the NFL had a poor opening day against the Bengals. Fantasy owners hoping that Kyle Orton would be helped by the talented receiving corps in Denver saw those dreams fade a little on Sunday. Royal will still produce this year, just don't expect him to put up the kind of numbers he did in his rookie campaign.
