NFL Football: After Week 1 Who is the Best Team?

Which Team Looks Superbowl Bound?

As expected there were some upsets and some big wins in week one of the 2010 NFL season. After seeing each team play, which teams are real contenders?

One team with a lot of hype was the Green Bay Packers. They beat Philadelphia 27-20, but it was not impressive. The Packers started slow last year and really need improvement to reach the Superbowl this year.

No one seemed to expect much of the New England Patriots. They overplayed Cincinnati in a game that was supposed to showcase Ochocinco and Terrell Owens against a suspect Pat defense. Instead the game was once again the Tom Brady show. One game is too quick to put the Bengals under the bus and too soon to brag about New England.

Dallas and Washington was quite a match-up. Both teams had a lot to prove. The Redskins are better than expected, but not Superbowl bound. The big surprise is how bad the Cowboys played. The Cowboys seem to improve as the year goes on, but in week one, the looked like a pretender and not a contender.

The two Monday night games were both upsets. Baltimore is good, but the New York Jets were picked by so many to go to the Superbowl. Mark Sanchez looked awful. Neither team should be tossed out of the mix, but I'm not picking either team to win it all just yet.

San Diego lost to Kansas City. San Diego spends each year trying to get in the playoffs because of bad starts. At the end of the year the look unstoppable, but lose in the playoffs. This team is too hard to figure out.

Another hot pick had been San Francisco. The 49ers offense will come around. The defense needs so much work. Seattle is my pick for the NFC West, but not to make it past the first round of playoffs.

Houston and Indianapolis played the biggest game of the week. I believe these are both possible contenders. Houston won this game, so they have the edge right now.

The New York Giants and the Carolina Panthers was not a great game to watch. The Giants won, but did not look terrific. I was hoping to put New York among the elite. I'm not convinced yet.

That leaves Thursday night's game between the New Orleans Saints and the Minnesota Vikings. I believe one of these two teams will be in the Superbowl. For me, it can go either way. New Orleans beat Minnesota last week and are the Champs. Can they do it again?

After Week One, I'm taking New Orleans and Minnesota in another NFC playoff game with the Saints finding a way to make it to the Superbowl for the second year.

In the AFC, I'm taking Houston and New England (no one likes New England, but they win). I'm taking Houston to make it to the Superbowl and win it all.

It's only Week One. So, wait till next week. I may change my mind.
