NFL Futures; Teams to Bet on Before the 2010 Draft to Win Super Bowl XLV

Michael Luchies
The NFL Draft can change many teams fortunes. Currently there are several long shot future bets on NFL teams to win Super Bowl XLV that I think will significantly change after the draft, and are worth putting a couple of dollars on. (Odds are from Bodog.com on April 20th, 2010)

Arizona Cardinals 35/1
The bulk of the team remains, but key pieces were lost in Warner and Boldin. A couple of solid moves and Leinart breaking out in 2010 could have the Cardinals in the playoffs with a chance to return to the Super Bowl. It is a long shot as all of these are, but at good value for 35/1 on your money.

Chicago Bears 30/1
Cutler will fit in much better this year and has an extra year of experience with the young Bears receivers. Peppers will lead the defense that is taking a new form but should be able to improve significantly from last year. The Bears are a steal at 30/1 already, the draft may not help them much, but a couple of solid picks could push them further in the right direction.

Detroit Lions 100/1
Am I suggesting that a team at 100/1 has a shot at the Super Bowl? No, but the Lions have had a great offense and could improve more than any other team in the league through the upcoming draft. A game changer like Suh at DT added with new additions to the defensive line and then help at running back with Jahvid Best, and the Lions could be a legitimate contender. Their offense is taking shape and defense can be top 15 if they can solidify their secondary. I'll put $10 on the Lions at 100/1 every year for the next 99 years or until they finally win one.

Miami Dolphins 30/1
The Dolphins got a great deal in acquiring Brandon Marshall from the Denver Broncos and also hold the 12th pick in the NFL Draft. Although I think they let Ginn go way too cheaply as he was a game changer on special teams, they have a core of talent that could easily make the playoffs with a couple of improvements. If their backfield stays healthy the Dolphins will make the playoffs, and any playoff team at 30/1 to win the Super Bowl is good value.

New York Giants 25/1
The Giants are another steal at 25/1 and a legitimate contender. Usually the larger market teams get overrated when it comes to preseason odds, but this year there are several exceptions. The Giants have a top 10 QB, a group of improving young receivers and a dangerous backfield when healthy. The Giants are worth throwing a few dollars at.

New York Jets 16/1
By far my favorite pre-draft bet, I am writing a separate article on this one. The Jets are amazing value at 16/1 as they significantly improved their team in the offseason on both sides of the ball minus Thomas Jones. Sanchez had as good of a rookie year as one could hope, and the receiving core is set to have a fantastic year. The Jets should be one of the favorites in 2010, but instead still sit at 16/1. I'm not sure how the 29th pick will affect their Super Bowl odds, but depending on who falls late in the draft, their odds could shift either way. No matter who the Jest take this weekend, put something down on them at 16/1!

Tennessee Titans 28/1
Vince Young is back and the Titans have the best running back in the NFL. Those two ingredients are worth putting $10 on a team at 28/1.
