NFL Hall of Fame 2010 Class Includes NFL Greats Jerry Rice and Emmitt Smith

The 2010 NFL Hall of Fame Class Could Be One of Best for the NFL Ever

This NFL Hall of Fame 2010 Class could be one of the NFL's best ever. The NFL Hall of Fame 2010 class includes Jerry Rice and Emmitt Smith, and though it's typical to call Hall of Fame players some of the best in history, this class is truly one of the greatest we have seen from the NFL in some time. Both Emmitt Smith and Jerry Rice are three-time Super Bowl winners, have won the MVP award, and both have strong arguments at being the best player at their position in the history of the game. Putting the best wide receiver and the best running back into the NFL Hall of Fame during the same year speaks volumes about what we have seen on the football field in the last 20 years.

The 2010 NFL Hall of Fame class included more than just The Cowboys Emmitt Smith and the 49ers Jerry Rice. Also joining them are Russ Grimm, Rickey Jackson, Floyd Little, Dick LeBeau and John Randle. It is an extremely impressive class including all of these other players, and even better when we consider the players that didn't quite make the cut this year. Former Oakland Raiders wide receiver Tim Brown, and widely considered one of the best in the game while he was playing, didn't quite make the cut in his first eligible year on the ballot. He does stand a great chance at making it into the Hall of Fame next year or the year after that though.

Putting in perspective some of the stats that the two leaders of this class put together is hard to do, because they are flat out staggering. Jerry Rice caught 1,549 passes, had 22,895 receiving yards, and 14 seasons where he went for more than 1,000 yards. Oh and he scored 208 touchdowns to set a blistering NFL record that still holds up five years later. Then there is Smith, who rushed for 18.355 yards and 164 total touchdowns for Dallas and Arizona during his career. The seven new NFL Hall of Fame players will be officially inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio during a big ceremony on August 7th, 2010.
