There are two groups out there that are trying to help sports fans out. Sports Fans Coalition is a national nonprofit fighting to give sports fans a voice on public policy issues. We were established in 2009 and are based in Washington, D.C. Our board of directors is bipartisan and includes White House senior staffers from both parties, as well as a popular sportswriter and a prominent consumer advocate. SFC knows both how the business of sport is run, as well as how the business of government gets done. We now have over 5,000 members nationwide and are growing quickly. This group is taking the hard and long approach to help sports fans and you can find out more about this group at http://www.sportsfans.org . Another group is taking a different approach. They are trying to help sports fans save money to allow them to continue having the money it takes to be a sports fan. They have created a group for sports fans that will be offering a network where sports fans can receive discounts and rebates on the products and services they are already spending money on. Both groups can only be successful if their memberships have large numbers. Both group offer a free membership to join.
Sports fans are involved in the largest legal addictive behavior in the world. When a person attends a sports event they get to choose which side the get to support or root for and are able to leave all their problems of live at home for the time of the event. Sports fans ban together with each other to show support of the team they like whether it is a high school team, a college team, a professional team, or even a country team. Being a sports fan dictates how we spend a large percent of the money we earn. Most sports organizations do not worry about the fans because they know why there will always be sports fans that are going to spend the money to attend the sporting events.
While sports fans spend millions of dollars each year on ticket prices, this is only a small percent of the money spent in the sporting industry. Sports fans spend money is the travel industry to get to the games and the apparel industry on items that show support for their favorite teams. The money that sports fans spends on products and services that are related to the sports industry is billions of dollars each year. Sports fans will spend these dollars every year because they love the feeling they get when they attend the sporting events and they want to make sure they are part of the group by wearing the teams colors and shirts to the events. When a team is successful it creates a larger desire for people to show that they are supporters of that team which again increases the income that team makes on sports related products.
Jim Harris the Director of Elite Sports Fans Marketing Group says that their group is working on contracts with several major corporations in the travel industry and apparel industry that are going to create programs for its member to be able to save money on products and services that they already are buying or using. He also explains that his group was formed to help the sports fans still be able to afford the enjoyment of being a sports fan.
