Kansas City and Chicago Bears are the other two unexpected unbeaten teams.
But which team is best?
If you look at the numbers, it is obvious the Steelers have been the most dominating team in football. They've scored 72 points and allowed a mere 33 points.
The Steelers beat Atlanta 15-9 in week 1; Tennessee 19-11 in week 2; and Tampa Bay 38-13 in week 3.
Next week is very telling as they take on division rival Baltimore.
If Pittsburgh wins that game it does not seem possible anyone could doubt the Steelers as the best team in football.
Both Dennis Dixon and Charlie Batch have performed well. Not great, but good enough. Batch will start again this coming week. Roethlisberger comes back in week 6.
Rashard Mendenhall is averaging over 110 yards a game. The ground game ranks fourth overall averaging 150 running yards. The offensive line has been outstanding.
Mike Wallace has caught five touchdown passes and Hines Ward six. Antonio Brown has returned a kick-off for a touchdown.
The defense has been spectacular. Troy Polamalu leads the way (as always) with two INT's, but three other players have one interception each. James Harrison has three of the team's ten sacks. The team ranks third in run defense. Much of that is due to Aaron Smith being back at defensive end. He is dominating.
Perhaps, most important seems to be the entire team's - led by Coach Mike Tomlinson - determination. Not having Big Ben is not the end of the world. One player does not make a team. Pittsburgh has proved that. Every player has played like they had something to prove. Each has made a positive impact.
It's too early to make to make many definite predictions. But, after week 3 who can't say that Pittsburgh is not Number one!
Of course, Week 4 is only a few days away!
