NFL Playoffs: Refs Still Can't Help Colts Beat Chargers

San Diego Wins 28-24

This was the worst display of the best hometown calling in NFL History I've seen in my lifetime. If I am going to watch a football its always nice to actually have the two teams decide the game and not the zebras. Especially in the playoffs which I don't even have the words right now about how bad the officiating was geared towards having the Colts win this game. It makes you wonder just how blind we as fans are to the almighty dollar and which teams in a AFC Championship game or Super Bowl would make the most money for the NFL.

For the most part the calls during the game were good calls. Did wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez step out of bounds on his way to the end zone? No, good call. Did Eric Weddle hold on the Antonio Cromartie interception returned for a touchdown? Especially when it was about as delayed as the P.I. against the Miami Hurricanes in the 2002 BCS Championship game. I don't see how you can when the Indianapolis offensive line was holding worse than that the entire game and San Diego not getting but 1 of those calls. Or how bout the hold on Weddle by Jeff Saturday and Weddle one handed the interception anyways? Thats a prime example of the game plan there. How bout the "Where in the hell is there a" pass interference call against Hart covering Reggie Wayne which even had the commentators asking why the call was made.

It was absolutely, positively, a sad display of trying to get yet another New England vs. Indianapolis rematch which makes money for everyone. Instead now we have nothing more than a possible warm weathered team going into frost bite land without their starting quarterback Philip Rivers and running back LaDanian Tomlinson. I can see the "big wigs" as soon as the game ended hopping on their secret identity blogs with nothing but, @#$^%*%(*&$$^@$#% all the way down the page. Then coming back out for an interview with a gleaming smile saying how great of a game next week's matchup is going to be. Yet they never mention backup Billy Volek or Michael Turner.

The Cowboys game is on as I am typing this and I imagine the game they want is Packers vs. Cowboys. I mean yeah Manning vs. Manning in a Super Bowl against one another is always at the forefront of some conversation in the NFL when they are talking money, but now that big brother is gone it would really suck if the Giants win this game. Just keep an eye on and see what happens. Crazy part is I picked Indy to win, but was rooting for San Diego and well its just sad, enough said.

you know Frags I read something about that today and hadn't even heard anything about it before. That is really interesting and thanks for bringing it up!

Michael - The PI call was definitely questionable, as was the hold by Weddle, but what really struck me was how loud it was for San Diego and how dead calm it was when Indy had the ball. I know there was some rumor about them piping the sound in through the PA system at one point and after watching Sunday's game, I'm almost libel to believe it.

Great job Michael. I watched the game of course and I agree. This was the worst and most obvious hometown officiating ever! I was pulling for the Colts and to be honest I felt ashamed. It was sick. Great article!

Great article, Michael. As I'm sure you know, the Giants won last night. My dad is a Cowboys fan. So, he's all broke up. I usually just watch the Super Bowl. Great coverage. Yeah, darn those refs. I remember when a ref made a STUPID call during a football game that cost my high school the game. The player had caught the ball, both feet on the ground in the in zone before being pushed out of the in zone (I'm sorry. Don't know all the football jargon.) The next day, to make matters worse, there was a picture in the newspaper of the player catching the ball with both feet in the in zone. Sigh....Loved your article.

lol, Mo I feel ya on that went back on several plays and just had to wonder. Katy, yea sorry bout the Boyz, but I didn't think they were going to win anyways. As for this game I was rooting for the Chargers, but had picked the Colts to win in my other article. I knew someone would think I rooted for the Colts, thats why I put "Crazy part is I picked Indy to win, but was rooting for San Diego and well its just sad, enough said." as the last sentence here :)
