The New Orleans Saints have won Super Bowl XLIV, closing the book on the 2009 NFL regular season and 2010 NFL postseason. It's now time for my final NFL power rankings of the season.
A quick note before I begin: These NFL power rankings are only for the end of the 2009 NFL season as the teams head into the 2010 football offseason. Events like free agency or the 2010 NFL Draft has not been considered while creating my final NFL power rankings of the season. Also, since all teams are currently at 0-0, no records will be posted in these NFL power rankings.
32. St. Louis: It's very likely that the Rams will be at the bottom of all NFL power rankings throughout the 2010 NFL season. St. Louis head coach Steve Spagnuolo deserves better.
31. Detroit: At this rate, the Lions will follow the Saints and win the franchise's first-ever Super Bowl! In 2015. Hey, that's not too far away.
30. Tampa Bay: The Bucs need a ton of help, especially on offense. It's likely the Lions will finish higher than Tampa Bay in 2010 NFL power rankings.
29. Oakland: Tom Cable still has a job in the NFL, and the team's starting quarterback on the depth chart is Charlie Frye. Both of these statements are true.
28. Washington: The Redskins have moved up two slots since my final regular season NFL power rankings due to the signing of Mike Shanahan as head coach. Jim Zorn wasn't taking this team to the Promised Land.
27. Kansas City: If the Chiefs can get an actual defense, Kansas City could make a significant move up NFL power rankings in 2010.
26. Buffalo: Not sure how much faith I have in Chan Gaily as the Bills head coach. This team desperately needs a quarterback.
25. Seattle: The Seahawks grossly underachieved during the 2009 NFL season, largely due to a plethora of injuries. Pete Carroll and better fortune should equal at least a few more victories for Seattle next season.
24. New York Giants: New defensive coordinator. Players saying they'll quit football if they can't start. It's going to be a very interesting offseason for Big Blue.
23. Denver: Would it shock if you the Broncos finished in the same spot at the end of the 2010 NFL power rankings?
22.Cleveland: The Browns ended the season as the hottest team in football (seriously), and the team has brought in Mike Holmgren. With that said, the momentum of the four game winning streak is long gone and the Browns have some serious holes to fill.
21. Jacksonville: Will the 2010 NFL season be the last that Jack Del Rio coaches the Jaguars? It will be if Jacksonville finished under .500 again.
20. Miami: Chad Henne will start at quarterback for the Dolphins in September. It will be interesting to see what the young QB can do going into a season as a starter.
19. Chicago: Mike Martz signing on as the Bears offensive coordinator isn't enough to move the team higher in these NFL power rankings.
18. San Francisco: The 49ers are winning the division next season. Hey, it's got to happen one of these years.
17. Carolina: The Panthers are another football team that could have a new head coach a year from today.
16. Tennessee: I believe will all of my heart that the Titans will finish the 2010 NFL power rankings higher than 17.
15. Houston: While the Texans are currently a fine football team, the team needs to make a couple of improvements in order to make the 2011 NFL playoffs.
14. Pittsburgh: Big Ben's concussion problems are going to be a "thing" next season. Just wait.
13. Atlanta: The Falcons won't disappoint two seasons in a row. Atlanta will be in the top ten throughout the 2010 NFL power rankings.
12. Arizona: So long Kurt Warner. So long NFL playoffs. No, I take that back. I believe in you, Matt Leinart. You can do it.
11. New England: I'm not ready to say the Patriots are finished, just yet. Would it really be earth shattering to see the Pats win the division next season?
10. Minnesota: Hollywood Brett Favre is gone. Or not. Who really knows at this point?
9. Cincinnati: I really don't expect the Bengals to win the AFC North in 2010 but Cincy could still make the playoffs as a Wild Card team.
8. Philadelphia: One thing I love about the NFL offseason is the 17 "Donovan McNabb is done in Philly" rumors.
7. Baltimore: Ray Rice alone puts the Ravens this high in these NFL power rankings. The Ravens are my (extremely) early pick to win the division next year.
6. Green Bay: A healthy offensive line and Aaron Rodgers, the 2010 NFL MVP, puts the Packers in the top sixth of my end of season NFL power rankings.
5. New York Jets: Mark Sanchez looked like a future championship quarterback in the AFC championship game, and the Jets have a stellar defense.
4. Dallas: The Cowboys get just slightly better every year, suggesting that Dallas should at least play in the 2011 NFC championship game.
3. San Diego: The Chargers will likely be in the top five of the first round of 2010 NFL power rankings.
2. Indianapolis: Don't be fooled. Peyton Manning and the Colts will be back.
1. New Orleans: The champs finish the year at the top of all NFL power rankings and rightfully so. Congrats again to the Saints and all of Who Dat Nation.
