NFL Power Rankings: New England Patriots Division Leader or Division Loser?

Alfonso Coley
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is having another great season despite losing some of his key veteran players to retirement. The owner of the AFC East title ship is far from over as the New England Patriots will face some opponents who would like nothing more than to knock them out of the playoff race. Not only will the New England Patriots not have home field advantage over their divisional opponents, this will be the season where the Patriots have been exposed on many levels - due to the team rebuilding phase. Tom Brady has thrown for 3,638 yards and 22 passing touchdowns, without a doubt he is the MVP of his team, besides Randy Moss and Wes Walker.

The New England Patriots are 7-5 in the AFC East Division, and Tom Brady has been contained by three teams with a very aggressive defense- which has made the difference in their less than dominating season. The AFC East Division Wild Card and Playoff Berth will be decided on what team defense rises to the occasion to eliminate their opponent from the playoff picture.

Indeed, the New England Patriots are not the same team as far as their defense, and their offensive line has struggled in protecting Tom Brady. It seems as though the Patriots are undergoing some growing pains, and Coach Bill Belichick sending four of his player's home due to a slight tardiness may have been quite unreasonable due to the circumstances that prompted the player's lateness. At the present, Tom Brady will enter week 14 not in one hundred percent playing shape, it may or may not have an affect on his playing ability, but that all depends on what Carolina Panther team shows up on Sunday.

The New England Patriots should win their division, but the way that the Pat's have played their away games - it is a possibility that the Jacksonville Jaguars may have their number. The remaining four games for the New England Patriots season will decide if they will become the division leader or ultimately be remembered as the 2009 division losers.
