Both the Colts and the Saints remain undefeated (13-0) and, since they both face very beatable opponents for their last three remaining games, there's a good chance that both teams will go 16-0. If this happens, it will be the first time two teams have ever gone undefeated in the history of the NFL. But will the Colts and Saints focus on finishing undefeated or will they sit players in an effort to remain healthy for the playoffs? It remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, by defeating the Broncos on Sunday (by a score of 28-16) , the Colts have entered the record books. They are now the only NFL team to ever win 22 regular season games in a row. They previously shared the record (21 consecutive wins in a regular season) with the New England Patriots .
And how about those Chargers? Their victory over the Dallas Cowboys Sunday (20-17) was their eighth win in a row. In addition, they are now a very impressive 16-0 in December games under head coach Norv Turner. Their record is now 10-3 and they have a two-game lead over the Broncos. And on Sunday, they should be able to take care of the Cincinnati Bengals, who have only averaged 17 points a game since week 2 of the season.
And speaking of the Cincinnati Bengals, they lost to the Minnesota Vikings Sunday by a score of 30-10, which means that the Vikes have now gotten themselves a playoff berth - despite losing rather decisively to the Arizona Cardinals last week.
The Philadelphia Eagles capitalized on a multitude of mistakes on the part of the New York Giants Sunday night and now find themselves on the brink of a playoff berth. The final score was 45-38 and the Eagles (8-5) now lead the NFC East.
What happened to the Arizona Cardinals? They were favored to beat the 49ers Monday night and clinch their division. But alas, it was not meant to be; the Niners beat the Cardinals 24 to 9. The Cardinals still lead the 49ers by two games but in order to clinch the division, they'll need to win two of their final three games. The Niners still have a chance of getting into the playoffs, but the odds are rather long.
