NFL Power Rankings: Week 2

NFL Power Rankings Week 2. The second week of the 2007 NFL season is over and some teams are separating themselves from the pack, while others are digging themselves a deeper hole. It is now time for the third week of NFL Power Rankings on Associated Content. The NFL Power Rankings for Week 2 are:

The New England Patriots move into the top spot with another convincing win, this time over the Chargers. This puts the Colts down to the second spot.

The Saints and the Bengals both take big falls after some very bad losses and the Bears fall a few spots after their unconvincing win over the Chiefs.

The Cowboys and the Steelers benefit the most from the drops of these three teams as they both move into the top-five this week.

Without further adieu, here are the rankings:

1. New England Patriots

The New England Patriots fly into the top spot with an incredible victory over the Chargers. Just one week removed from Spygate, the Patriots proved how well they can play by taking complete control of the Chargers on both sides of the ball. Two 38-14 victories have the Patriots sitting pretty at 2-0.

Next Up: Buffalo

2. Indianapolis Colts

The Colts don't drop a spot because of a loss, but they do drop based on the great play of the Patriots. The Colts were in a dogfight on Sunday but they came out victorious. This was not entirely unexpected as the last two between the Colts and the Titans have been close games. Week 9, Pats and Colts, will be a great showdown.

Next Up: at Houston

3. San Diego Chargers

The Chargers lost to the Patriots but they do not move down a spot. This is because even though they were manhandled, a better team beat them and losing will happen. Their victory over the Bears keeps them in third place, but next week against the Packers is a must win game.

Next Up: at Green Bay

4. Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers jump up into the top-four with another victory. Even though the two teams that they have played, the Bills and the Browns, are not that great, the defense and the offense have been very impressive. Rothlisberger looks to be back and so do the Steelers.

Next Up: San Francisco

5. Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys also move up a few spots. A loss by the Saints and an underwhelming performance by the Bears has the Cowboys looking good. The Cowboys offense has been really good, but the defense still has to prove itself. If they can improve on defense, they will be the early team to beat in the NFC.

Next Up: at Chicago

6. Denver Broncos

The Broncos have sneaked out of two games with wins and they have not looked very impressive yet. Good news fore the Broncos is that a one-point win counts just the same as a blowout. The Broncos have some work to do if they want to beat the great NFL teams, but a 2-0 start is as good as you can ask for.

Next Up: Jacksonville

7. Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens got back on track with a nice win over the New York Jets. The Ravens looked pretty good on defense, but the offense still needs some work. A number one receiver really needs to emerge in Baltimore and they need to use Todd Heap more. Ravens could be 2-0 if not for a goal line mistake by Boller.

Next Up: Arizona

8. Green Bay Packers

The Packers are one of a handful of teams that are a surprising 2-0. The Packers defense has really held their own through two games, but the offense could really use some improvement. Brandon Jackson looks to have won the starting running back job for the Pack.

Next Up: San Diego

9. Chicago Bears

The Bears really needed all of Devin Hester's contributions for them to get a victory at home against the Chiefs. In 2 games the Bears are 1-1 but their offense has looked terrible twice. It might soon be time for Rex Grossman to lose his job because he doesn't seem to be working out.

Next Up: Dallas

10. Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks lost on a last second field goal in Arizona and now drop to 1-1. The Seahawks could have use a win in the desert, but they still look like they should be the team to beat in the NFC West. Deion Branch needs to show up for the Seahawks for them to be as successful as they can be this season.

Next Up: Cincinnati

11. Tennessee Titans

The Titans might have lost on Sunday to the Colts, but they were mighty impressive. They held the Colts to 22 points and almost squeezed out an upset victory. Vince Young looked poised for only his second season under center and the young Titans could be contenders for the AFC wildcard this season.

Next Up: at New Orleans

12. Cincinnati Bengals

Wow did the Bengals defense look terrible on Sunday. After looking pretty good in their opening game they took several gigantic steps backwards by letting Cleveland, yes Cleveland, and quarterback Derek Anderson score 51 points on them. The Bengals better right whatever was wrong with their defense fast or they will be in for some major trouble.

Next Up: at Seattle

13. Washington Redskins

The Redskins start off a trio of surprising 2-0 teams in the rankings. On Monday night the Redskins defense was mighty impressive, holding the Eagles on a final red zone stand in the final minutes. The Redskins offense, under young starter Jason Campbell, is looking better every week.

Next Up: New York Giants

14. Houston Texans

The Houston Texans are also a surprising 2-0 team. Matt Shaub looks like he could be the real deal in Houston and the Falcons might be regretting letting him go for a while. The Texans will be hoping Andre Johnson's knee injury isn't too serious.

Next Up: Indianapolis

15. San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers have pulled out two wins against division opponents and see themselves at the top of the NFC West. The 49ers pulled out some magic against the Cardinals and won another close game at the Rams. The 49ers defense looks legit and young quarterback Alex Smith is looking more comfortable. This could be a nice season by the bay.

Next Up: at Steelers

16. Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers looked impressive in their first week and they were every bit as disappointing in their second week loss to the Texans. The Texans could be for real, but a 31-14 loss is inexcusable. They need to get something besides Jake Delhomme to Steve Smith to work.

Next Up: Falcons

17. Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions have looked pretty good on offense, with the exception of running the football, but their defense has not looked so good. If they hadn't been playing the Raiders or the Vikings they might have started this season 0-2. The really need to work on their running and defensive games or the losses will be coming soon.

Next Up: at Philadephia

18. New Orleans Saints

Is any team more disappointing than the New Orleans Saints so far this season? The Saints have been outscored by almost 50 points and this was supposed to be the best offense in the NFC. The Saints desperately need to right their ship at home next Sunday or they could be out of it before they were ever in.

Next Up: Tennessee

19. Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals could very easily be 2-0 this week if their defense hadn't allowed the 49ers to march down the field in their first game. Well the past is the past and the Cards put that game behind them with a big divisional game win over the Seahawks. The Cardinals defense looks like they could be legit and so far so good for their new offensive line.

Next Up: at Baltimore

20. Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings came within a field goal of being 2-0 on the season on Sunday. The Vikings defense has been great so far this season; just ask those who own them on their fantasy team, but the offense just isn't up to par. Tavaris Jackson could get better, but his receivers are awful. Adrian Peterson has been pretty good so far.

Nest Up: at Kansas City

21. Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars didn't look great in their first game, but when they play the Titans it is never pretty. They followed that up with an ugly win, at least it was a win, over the Atlanta Falcons. So far there is nothing impressive about the Jaguars.

Next Up: at Denver

22. Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles had their chances to beat the Redskins on Monday Night Football but they could not capitalize on any of them. McNabb didn't look very good, but his receivers looked even worse. The only upside for the Eagles was Westbrook, who had another 100+ total yards game, but came away with no scores. The Eagles are hurting right now and desperately need a win next week.

Next Up: Detroit

23. New York Jets

The Jets are 2-0, but at least they have played two of the best teams in football in the Patriots and the Ravens. It also looks like the Jets will have a new quarterback with Kellen Clemmons who they hope will improve on what Chad Pennington has given them. The Jets defense does not look right, but the offense looks alright.

Next Up: Miami

24. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Buccaneers stunned the Saints at home by playing like, well, the Saints. The score was probably expected, but most expected the Saints to be the team airing it out for big points. The Bucs needed a nice win, but it is still yet to be known if the Bucs were goo or if the Saints are just that bad.

Next Up: St. Louis

25. New York Giants

The New York Giants look terrible right now. They started off the season losing to the Cowboys, and giving up 45 points, and they didn't look much better against the Packers. The Giants need a new head coach soon and if they lose next week they may get one. Brandon Jacobs's injury doesn't help them at all either.

Next Up: Washington

26. St. Louis Rams

The Rams had their chances to beat the San Francisco 49ers at home and they let the 49ers, and Frank Gore, slip through their hands, literally. Without Gore's late-game touchdown run the Rams might have been able to pull this one out. Right now they are in last place in the NFC West and they need a win bad.

Next Up: at Tampa Bay

27. Oakland Raiders

The Raiders might not be quite as bad as people thought. They do have 2 losses, but they have looked better than advertised. In fact, they looked like they had beaten the Broncos until Mike Shanahan called a late, very late, timeout to ice Janikowski. The Raiders might not win a lot of games, but they could be entertaining losers.

Next Up: Cleveland

28. Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins are now 0-2 after losing pretty badly to the Cowboys on Sunday. The Dolphins had a chance in week 1, but had very little chance at home in week 2. The Dolphins are on their way to finishing the season near the bottom of the AFC again.

Next Up: at New York Jets

29. Cleveland Browns

The Browns climbed out of the cellar of the NFL with their impressive week 2 victory over Cincinnati. No one ever thought that a team, especially the Browns, could beat the Bengals if the Bengals scored 45 points. Well the Browns did just that. Derek Anderson also may have quieted the calls for Brady Quinn, at least for this week.

Next Up: at Oakland

30. Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills had a chance in week 1, but never had a chance in week 2. The Steelers owned the game against the Bills from start to finish and the Bills defense did not look very good at all. When will the Bills realize JP Losman is just not an NFL starting quarterback?

Next Up: at New England

31. Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs and Larry Johnson don't look very good. All of Kansas City is wondering whether Larry Johnson can get it going, but it won't be easy since other teams know that LJ is all the Chiefs have on offense. Damon Huard is certainly not a great starter and Brodie Croyle will probably be starting very, very soon for the Chiefs.

Next Up: Minnesota

32. Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons drop to the last place spot this week after another inept performance. The Falcons need to look long and hard about bringing in Byron Leftwich because Joey Harrington just doesn't look like he will be able to handle the job. If only Vick could have been indicted before the Falcons traded Matt Shaub they might look more like the Texans. Brian Brohm reuniting with Petrino, anyone?

Next Up: Carolina

Granted, I'm a Redskins fan, so a little biased. But I think they look better than what you're ranking them. I don't see how you can put them behind the Bears and the Bengals. They're looking pretty solid, especially on defense.
