NFL Power Rankings Week 9: Denver Falls

The New York Giants Continue to Struggle and Baltimore is Back to Make Waves

Ryan Christopher DeVault
The week 9 NFL power rankings are in for a change, as some of the week 8 NFL power rankings leaders had week 9 problems. The biggest demise in the week 9 power rankings is that of the Denver Broncos, which hit a wall when they went into Baltimore and were handled far too easily by the Ravens. It had looked like a very tough match-up on paper, because Denver was playing on the East Coast on a Daylight Savings weekend, but when the game is over, that just turns into an excuse for bad play. The Broncos just weren't very good on offense, defense, or special teams as a whole, and have been dropped from the ranks of the unbeaten as a result.

Indianapolis took care of business on Sunday with a nice win over San Francisco even though they were challenged, and Philadelphia made a huge statement by taking out the New York Giants in a game that never even seemed close. That third straight loss for the Giants is going to hurt them in the NFL Playoff race right now, and on the flip-side Philadelphia and Dallas are both posting multiple game win streaks that have them riding high over in the NFC East. The Lions also embarrassed themselves, helping the St. Louis Rams to win their first game of the season.

The team that got the biggest win of the weekend had to be the Minnesota Vikings, who had to go into Green Bay to play against the Packers. It was the first time that Brett Favre has ever played as a visitor in Green Bay, and the stresses associated with that as well as the emotions of the game made it an important game for both teams. Minnesota looked very strong, and they are really riding high after completing the regular season sweep of their division mates, and pulling even further ahead in the NFC North standings so far in 2009.

There are a host of new teams that are in serious trouble, including the Seattle Seahawks, Washington Redskins, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Buffalo Bills who might have just ended their seasons with yet another poor performance or two added to their resume over the last two weeks. New Orleans still has to take on Atlanta on Monday, but we don't think that the power rankings will need to be adjusted unless Atlanta can pull the upset, and that would be a huge boost for Atlanta in the rankings overall.

Denver should be ranked no lower than 4. If they lose to the Steelers then drop em however far you want.

atlanta falls to teh saints last night. week before dallas beats them and you still rank them above dallas. do i detect a little hatred of the cowboys?

WHAT? 49ers shut down Manning and only lose by a trick play, and we are ranked 21? The Giants got absolutely KILLED in three games in a row and they are 9? The Bengals should not be as high, especially with the Texans that low. Bad overall.

Sorry to the Denver folks, but Denver is going to lose to Pittsburgh in week 9, and that is going to shine a lot of light on the problems the Broncos have.

Broncos should be higher than Cincinnati and New England because 1) they beat them both, and 2) they have a better record. They should definitely better than Pittsburgh because Denver has a better record and has beaten a team that has beaten Pittsburgh (Cincinnati).

the dolphins beat the jets twice yet they are below them. Trying to figure out the reasoning behind this.

The Cowboys won their last 3 and the Giants lost their last 3. The Cowboys beat Atlanta. How can the Cowboys possibly be ranked number 11 below the Giants and the Falcons??? Your poll needs some serious adjustments.

the broncos beat the bengals and patriots and have wins over the cowboys and chargers...how can they drop below the bengals and pats?
