A total of 30 NFL franchises participated in the event with 75 coaches and scouts on hand to observe the seniors on the field, and participating in timed events, strength tests and also one-on-one interviews. Head Coaches Sean Peyton from the New Orleans Saints and John Fox of the Carolina Panthers elected to attend the event instead of sending representatives.
The day started out with multiple events taking place at the same time. This was necessary in order to give all the players an opportunity to participate in all of the drills and have time for interviews.
Who where the players that stood out?
There were several seniors that made impressions on the NFL representatives. Demetrius Byrd had the fasted 40 yd. dash with a time of 4.43, followed by Curtis Taylor with 4.49 and Darry Beckwith with 4.65.
Kirston Pittman stole the show at the bench, pressing 225 pounds for 28 repetitions. Pittman was followed by Brett Helms and Ricky Jean-Francois, who tied with 25 reps each.
Byrd also had the best distance on the vertical jump posting 35.5 inches. Pittman and Quinn Johnson both posted 30 inches for their vertical jump.
Representatives were eagerly watching Tyson Jackson, who is projected to be a first round draft choice. Jackson let all his numbers stand from the NFL Combine except the bench press, where he improved his NFL Combine score with 20 reps. He also performed individual workouts with NFL coaches.
