Only four NFL scores in Week 7 were still in doubt in the fourth quarter. The Vikings-Steelers game was one of them, as expected, as the Steelers got the win on two fourth-quarter defensive touchdowns. Otherwise, the only close NFL score in the day's early games was the Texans 24-21 win over the 49ers - and that was close because Alex Smith had a surprisingly big second half for the Niners.
Tight NFL scores for Week 7 were even harder to come by in the 4:00 games. Only one score was close, and even that looked to be a blowout early on. The Dolphins jumped ahead 24-3 over the unbeaten Saints, but New Orleans was the only team to stage a big comeback from a huge Week 7 deficit. The Saints' 46-34 win served as another big statement that New Orleans may be the best team in football right now.
Otherwise, the NFL scores in Week 7 were littered with lopsided blowouts. Fans were subject to games like the Packers' 31-3 win over the Browns, the Colts' 42-6 demolition of the Rams, the Chargers' 37-7 throttling of the Chiefs, the Patriots 35-7 beatdown of the Bucs in London, the Jets' 38-0 shellacking of the Raiders, the Bengals' 45-10 annihilation of the Bears, and more ugly contests.
The night ended well with a close 24-17 win for the Cardinals over the Giants, but that was littered with four Giants turnovers. Things don't look much better for the last NFL score in Week 7, as the Eagles, who come off an embarrassing loss to the Raiders - which looks even worse after the reeling Jets destroyed Oakland - face the even more embarrassing Redskins tonight.
This was a largely forgettable NFL Week 7, except for what happened in Pittsburgh, Miami and New York. There is clearly a big gap between the NFL's best and worst teams this year, but rarely has it been driven home with this many blowouts in one week. The top teams either got big statement wins, or pretty much coasted through a glorified exhibition test.
The NFL scores for Week 7 were letdowns, but at least Week 8's certain blowouts will be overshadowed by super showdowns like the Vikings vs Packers, Falcons vs Saints, and the Giants vs Eagles.
