NFL Season 2010 - Predictions

Parody Shmarody... Got Your Champs Right Here

Phil Gordon
TGIF (Thank God It's Football)... It's almost time for another wonderful season of the NFL. I'm going to provide the readers with a list of my Predictions for the upcoming NFL season (some sure to be wrong).

Many say the NFL strives for parody, that the league is set up for all teams to be 8-8. I disagree... The big wigs of the NFL love to see the dominant forces facing off in meaningful games in January and most of all in early February. I think most fans will agree that the NFL is currently at its peak in both TV and approval ratings due in part to the fact the league is semi-predictable (at least on a year long view).

Let's start with what I think is one of the most intriguing divisions for the past 8 years...

NFC South

Since the alignment in 2002, the team that finished in last place in the division the previous year went on to make a postseason appearance in the following season, with the last place team winning the division in 6 of the past 7 seasons.

Prediction number 1 for NFC South- Worst-to-first will not hold true this year. There is no way Tampa Bay makes the playoffs. They are thin at every position and have a QB who without weapons and no protection is going to put up some abysmal numbers.

Prediction number 2 for NFC South- Atlanta will win the division based on the fact that their schedule sets up better.

Predicted order of finish

1. Atlanta Falcons(11-5)

2. New Orleans Saints(10-6 wild card)

3. Carolina Panthers(6-10)

4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers(3-13)

NFC East

The Dallas Cowboys seem to be the "sexy" pick this year to be playing a home game on Superbowl Sunday. While I don't agree I do feel that they will run through the NFC East with minimal issues. They have more than enough talent to overcome their horrible excuse for a head coach.

Predicted Order of finish

1. Dallas Cowboys(12-4)

2. New York Giants (9-7 Wild Card)

3. Philadelphia Eagles(8-8)

4. Washinton Redskins(7-9)

NFC North

I'm soooooo surprised Brett Favre is back, I mean really who would have thought that he would wait until the exactly one year to the day to announce he was returning again. Wrangler must not have been paying him enough to stay at home in the deep south. I think Mr. Favre is in for a rough season this year. He has already lost his two top receiving options, he thinks his coach is an idiot and acknowledges his ankle is not in great shape. And I think the Saints really exposed the way to beat him... hit him even if he doesn't have the ball. And guess what the rest of the division got better... while Detroit is still Detroit, they have improved, and so have the Bears with the addition of Peppers. These predictions are not gonna go over well with the masses but I think you will see they aren't that "Favre-fetched."

Predicted Order of Finish

1. Green Bay Packers (12-4)

2. Chicago Bears (9-7)

3. Minnesota Vikings (9-7)

4. Detroit Lions (6-10)

NFC WEST

Ultimately I find this division to be a borefest... must be my east coast bias. Whatever team wins this division will likely be crushed in a first round game by a superior QB and superior team. I mean I like Hasselbeck as much as the next guy but is he really the best QB on any of these teams? Ya... probably. Mike Singletary will probably end up fighting Alex Smith, Matt Leinart is pissed he doesn't play for USC anymore (he cant afford the paycut since joining the NFL), and Sam Bradford is praying for a young Orlando Pace to miraculously return to protect his blind side.

Predicted Order of Finish

1. San Fransisco 49er's (9-7)

2. Seattle Seahawks(8-8)

3. Arizona Cardinals(5-11)

4. St. Louis Rams(3-13)

AFC East

Are the Jets good enough with a mediocre (at best) QB? Can the Pats get any kind of pass rush? Can the Dolphins protect Henne and succeed in yr 3 of Parcells? Can the Bills win ONE game? These questions will surely be answered in the first few weeks of the 2010 season. But I'm gonna answer them now. NO,YES,KINDA,NOT SURE.

Predicted Order of Finish

1. New England Patriots(11-5)

2. Miami Dolphins(9-7)

3. New York Jets(9-7)

4. Buffalo Bills(3-13)

AFC NORTH

Get ya popcorn ready!! The bungles are no more... or are they? Can Baltimore cover anyone with what might as well be me playing CB? Can Pitt overcome a tough start without Big Ben for the first 4-6 games? And how much will Cleveland Suck?

Predicted Order of Finish

1. Cincinnati Bengals(11-5)

2. Pittsburgh Steelers(10-6 Wild Card)

3. Baltimore Ravens(9-7)

4. Cleveland Browns(2-14)

AFC SOUTH

I think this is the most competitive division in football. The Colts have won 12 or more games in 7 straight seasons... I wonder why? Oh ya... Best QB on the planet. The Titans have Chris Johnson, who seems to have implemented a cheat code in to his game to make him run faster than everyone else. The Jags have MJD... too bad DelRio can't play linebacker for them tho. And Houston (sexy pick for the past 34 years) has Andre Johnson and Matt Schaub.

Predicted Order of Finish

1. Indianapolis Colts(11-5)

2. Houston Texans (11-5 wild card)

3. Tennessee Titans(8-8)

4. Jacksonville Jaguars(6-10)

AFC WEST

Okay I'm done w/ the Chargers, seriously how many more times can they be the best at everything but yet still fail when it matters. They still have a terrible coach, dumped a hall of fame RB for a rookie, and cant sign anyone to play for them. So, in closing, I'm gonna pick them to win the division. Why, you say? B/c they play in the AFC WEST. Nuff Said. That being said I like the Raiders to be a surprise team.

Predicted Order of Finish

1. San Diego Chargers(11-5)

2. Oakland Raiders (8-8)

3. Kansas City Chiefs(6-10)

4. Denver Broncos(4-12)

Okay now that that's done. Playoff predictions

SUPERBOWL WINNER -Green Bay Packers
