NFL Week 11: Efficient Favre Leads Vikings Over Seahawks

Favre Completes Record 88% of Completions

The Minnesota Vikings were as dominant as they have been all season yesterday, defeating the Seattle Seahawks 35-9. The Vikings played very well in all three phases of the game, while Brett Favre set a personal and team record for efficiency.

Brett Favre threw for 22 completions in 25 attempts for a team record and personal best 88% completion rate. Favre said later, "I thought everyone had a hand in this performance today." Favre also threw for four touchdown passes to four different receivers, before being pulled in the fourth quarter to allow Tarvaris Jackson some playing time. Favre and Jackson spread the ball around as seven different receivers caught passes for Minnesota. Brett Favre commented after the game, "It was pretty efficient; I think it was a good example of utilizing everybody."

Favre's four touchdown passes gives him 21 on the season with only three interceptions. Brett Favre may be having his best season in the NFL, while his performance Sunday makes for a stronger case for Favre to be the MVP. The Vikings rushing game was also effective, again providing balance for an increasingly stellar passing game. Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor combined for over 150 yards rushing, and Taylor averaged over six yards a carry. Adrian Peterson finished the game one yard shy of 1000 yards rushing for the season.

The Vikings defense was phenomenal against the Seahawks offense. In a return to form, the Minnesota's defense allowed only four yards on 12 rushing attempts. The once vaunted Minnesota rushing defense had been allowing 3.9 yards per carry before Sunday's game against Seattle. Defensively, Minnesota played well throughout the game, allowing 212 yards to the Seahawks, mostly from fourth quarter garbage time.

With a methodical offense and a stiff defense, the Vikings controlled the ball for more than 42 minutes. For Seattle, it seemed as if nothing would work against the Vikings defense. Notably, the Seahawks converted on only one third-down in ten tries.

Seattle did get on the board in the third quarter after Nate Burleson caught a 38 yard pass from Matt Hasselbeck to set up a field goal. A short pass to Justin Forsett turned into a 47 yard gain in the fourth quarter and set up a Forsett one yard touchdown run to make the score somewhat more respectable.

Seattle is 3-7 but should be able to rebound next week when they face NFC West divisional rival St. Louis Rams at St. Louis. The Rams have only won one game this year. The St. Louis Rams lost to the Seahawks 28-0 in week one.

Minnesota will take on the Chicago Bears at home next week in a NFC North divisional game. The Vikings are well ahead in the NFC North at 9-1. Chicago is 4-6 and Minnesota is facing the Bears for the first time this season.
