NFL Week 3 Upset Predictions; Betting Picks, Spread Underdogs to Win

Michael Luchies
Last week I went 3-1 on upset picks. These picks are spread underdogs that will win the game (not just cover the spread). The one loss last week was the Chicago Bears who pushed the spread (+3), but lost the game. Here are my week 3 underdog winners. There are only three spread underdogs that will win their games, so I will give several spread winners as well. The first team listed is the favorite, the - is how many points they are favored by.

Minnesota Vikings (-3) vs. Carolina Panthers
The Panthers are 2-0 and will not lose their first game against the winless Vikings. The Vikings are favored because of their dangerous rushing attack with Adrian Peterson. The Vikings have not been effective with Tavaris Jackson playing QB. The Panthers look fresh and Delhomme looks like he did 5 years ago. Panthers win 27-17

San Francisco Giants (-4) vs. Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions erased a 21 point defecit against the Green Bay Packers in week two only to still lose by 23 points. The 49ers are not the Green Bay Packers. The rushing attack for the Lions will be improved and should be able to move the ball against the niners. Expect another breakout game by WR Calvin Johnson, which will lead the Lions to victory in San Francisco. Detroit Lions win 31-17

Washington Redskins (-3) vs. Arizona Cardinals
Did anyone watch the Cardinals last week? Well probably not outside of Arizona, but they were impressive. They have an all around spectacular offense, a reborn Kurt Warner, and an improved defense. The Cardinals will tear apart the Washington defense. The Redskins will not be able to keep up with Arizona's scoring. Cardinals win 31-14

Teams to Cover the Spread

Jets +9 vs. Chargers- The New York Bretts will not lose to the Chargers by more than a touchdown. The Jets should be in the game the entire way. Chargers Win 24-21.

Dolphins +13 vs. Patriots- The Patriots cannot move the ball efficiently without Tom Brady. The Pats win 21-13, the Dolphins won't lose by more than 10 points here, the Dolphins are not as bad as they were last year.

wow...yeah I;'ve been thinking baseball with the Giants pick...Hey I was right about the Patriots... 1-3 is pretty bad...that would put me at .500 over two weeks with underdogs...still not terrible...maybe I should start picking favorites to win

You couldn't see how the pats would have any problems covering the spread against the Dolphins? How about no Tom Brady. The Patriots are amazing, but in any offense if you throw a high school quarterback in, your probably going to see a huge drop off.

I like the Jets +9 (Ive got them +8.5) but I agree they will stay i this game. Check out the trends. Brett Favre is 5-0 against the Chargers. The Jets are also 4-1 ATS in the last 5 against the Chargers.

Im not touching the spread in the Patriots game. Im taking the Patriots straight up.
