NFL Week 9 Betting Locks; Spread Picks 2010, Best Bets

Michael Luchies
The NFL has been unpredictable this year but their are some trends that remain consistent and are worth following for solid picks. Here are my locks for NFL week 9 of the 2010 season. All spreads are from Sportsbook.com (11/3/2010 11:00 PM EST)

Locks

Chicago Bears (-3) @ Buffalo Bills
I haven't seen a play this attractive in quite some time. The Bills are allowing a league high 188.7 rushing yards per game, which is league worst by over 30 yards. The Bears are struggling through the air but they won't need much from Cutler in this game. Relying on Forte and Chester Taylor is a must for the Bears, and all signs point to Martz finally allowing the running game to develop after a pathetic performance before the bye week against the Redskins. The Bills have been playing tough, but still remain 0-7 and unable to make big plays when they are needed. I fully expect the Bears to leave Buffalo with a victory of a touchdown or more.
Pick: Chicago Bears 28-14

New England Patriots (-5) @ Cleveland Browns
You might be nervous about taking this game after the Browns shocked the world by upsetting the New Orleans Saints, but lets not get too excited here and remember who the Browns are. The (2-5) Browns have lost three of their last five games by more than 5 points, and you could argue that none of those teams are as good as the 6-1 Patriots (Ravens and Steelers fans will disagree). Four of the Patriots six wins have been by more than 5 points. Colt McCoy is giving Browns fans something to believe in, but don't forget that the Browns are still the Browns, and they will lose by more than five against the Patriots.
Pick: New England Patriots 35-17

New Orleans Saints (-6.5) @ Carolina Panthers
Five of Carolina's six losses have been by more than the spread of 6.5. The Saints are coming off a 10 point win over the Steelers and have a new fire under them after getting taken to the wire by the Panthers in week 4. The Panthers are the lowest scoring team in the NFL by far! The Panthers have scored only 85 points this season while the next closest low scoring team are the Browns at 118 total points. Take this opportunity and bet the Saints.
Pick: New Orleans Saints 28-10

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+8.5) @ Atlanta Falcons
I am taking the underdog in this one. You don't have to believe the 5-2 record that the Buccaneers have, but they are a better team than this spread gives them credit for. In the Falcons last five games they have only beat a team by 8 points or more once and that was against the Browns. The Falcons beat the 49ers at home by only 2 points. Don't expect a blowout in this one. I like a very close game and will not be surprised if the Buccaneers pull the upset.
Pick: Atlanta Falcons 27-24 (Take Tampa +8.5)
