Niagara Falls Attractions: The Fun House on Clifton Hill

The Fun House
Neighborhood: Clifton Hill
The Clifton Hill area of Niagara Falls, Canada, is one of the most visited tourist areas. This area on Niagara Falls is known for the many wax museums and circus-like attractions, which many return year after year to visit. Many of the Clifton Hill attractions in Niagara Falls are kid-friendly, and some, like The Fun House, appear to be particularly appealing to children from all outward appearances. The brightly colored Fun House sign and promises for a fun filled tour of a fun house are both reasons why I gave in and decided to purchase tickets to The Fun House, as my two youngest children tugged on my arm.

The Fun House Experience

An admission ticket to The Fun House costs $7.99 for adults, $7.49 for students and seniors, and $6.99 for children. Children under 4 are free. There is no general time limit for touring The Fun House, but it came as a surprise to reach the end in under fifteen minutes, even with a return trip backwards to the Anti-Gravity Room. The attractions along the way in The Fun House varied in appeal to the two children who experienced this attraction on my visit, ages 6 and 10.

Upon paying admission and scanning a ticket, visitors to The Fun House are faced with the daunting task of walking through a rotating barrel to gain entrance to The Fun House. A shaky bridge, just a few inches off the ground was the next challenge. The distorted mirrors, were a hit in the next room, while the series of lightweight punching bags might make any parent a little unsure. Luckily the punching bags do not hurt on impact and are very lightweight, but smaller children should be supervised.

The Anti-Gravity Room is a room with a tilted floor, and a traditional room in many fun houses. Another room along our tour of The Fun House was empty, except for two very large inflated balls, which I assume were meant to be tossed or kicked in the room. The balls looked slightly worn and dirty and it was hard to get past the feeling that some unsuspecting child could get knocked down by one if older children really gave it a throw. The most daunting task for adults is the crawling under a wooden area, which leaves little room to fit under. The rug also appeared old and well-traveled. After touring all the basic attractions in The Fun House, the kids were a little surprised that it was over after we reached a door that said exit on it.

Overall, the quality is lacking in this attraction and for all the people who must contribute admission for The Fun House, it looks dated, worn, and left me wanting to wipe the kids down with some bleach wipes. Some of the features were fun, but this is a walk-through attraction and most of the features only took a minute or two.

The Big Fun Value Pass is available for a combination ticket with other Clifton Hill attractions, lowering the price of admission to The Fun House if purchased this way. The Big Fun Pass can be purchased at any of the pass locations, including, the Haunted House, Brick City, Mystery Maze, The Fun House, and the Guiness Museum.

Location and Hours

The Fun House is located about midway up Clifton Hill. The official address is 4943 Clifton Hill, Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. The Fun House is open year round, including holidays with a wide range of hours, changing with each season. Summer hours at the The Fun House are 9 am until 2 am, Fall hours are 10 am until 10 pm daily, Winter hours run 11 am until 8 pm, and Spring hours are 10 am until 10 pm. The Clifton Hill location makes an even visit fine for families with children, since much of the Clifton Hill area is brightly lit with nearly all entertainment venues open late each night.

Recommendation

This is not one of Clifton Hill's better attractions for children, and I would only recommend it as part of one of the value pass options for younger children. Young children cannot venture through this attraction alone, however, and many adults will find this attraction boring and possibly difficult to manuever at some parts along the way.

This is also not an attraction for anyone who has a physical injury or disability which makes it difficult to crawl, walk across a swaying bridge, or cross a rolling barrel. There were no obvious warning signs posted upon entry to the attraction.

Don't take your kids here. It's a death trap. My daughter fell and suffered a fractured skull!

Wow, the author was a bit grumpy that day I guess. My kids loved the Fun House and Brontos Adventure Playland. We had hours of Fun. Guinness was pretty cool too. Even the Maze was awesome.
