It's easy to walk across Rainbow Bridge from the U.S. to Canawww.associatedcontent.com/article/217996/a_guide_to_working_in_canada.htmlda, so you can stay on either side and have a great time. However, the Canadian side is much nicer and there's more to do and see. The Canadian side is also more expensive, so be prepared. It seems like everything is Canada has a kind of double tax and it will shock you if you aren't prepared. There's a GST "goods and services tax" which is a 6% federal tax. There is also a PST "provincial sales tax" of 8%. The are provisions for returning a portion of the GST to visitors, but it's complicated and requires a certain level of spending. In a nutshell, be prepared to tack on 13% to your purchases. So we stayed in the U.S. and then spent a good deal of time walking around the Canadian side.
You can't go to the Falls without experiencing the Maid of the Mist. This boat trip around and under the Falls is great fun and gives you the feeling of the magnitude and strength of the Falls. You are given a poncho to wear if you want to stay dry, and most people wear the ponwww.associatedcontent.com/article/90664/what_to_bring_to_a_track_meet.htmlcho. It was hot on the day we went so we left the poncho off and enjoyed the breeze and the mist. The best thing about the Niagara Falls area is that you can do plenty without spending a fortune. Walking around the park and over the bridges and through the towns on both sides is essentially free and the amazing sites really give it a vacation feel.
