Nick Fury

J. Gordon
Colonel Nick Fury is the ultimate super spy in the Marvel Universe. He is the head of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Hazard Intervention, Espionage Logistics Directorate.) and is the government's liaison to the super-powered heroes of the Marvel Universe.

1910 - 1920

Nick Fury was born sometime during this time period. He was the oldest of three children and grew up in Hell's Kitchen, New York.

He left the city with his friend Red Hargrove to find adventure. They enlisted in the army and were stationed in Hawaii when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Red was killed, and Fury swore vengeance on the Axis Powers.

Fury is then given command of the "Howling Commandos" and they are stationed in Europe and given many specialized missions.

The Infinity Formula

Near the end of the war, Nick is severely injured by a land mine and is healed by Berthold Sternberg. Sternberg uses him as a test subject for his Infinity Formula. Fury makes a full recovery, but discovers later that the formula has slowed his aging process.

After working for the Office of Strategic Strategies (OSS), Fury changes over to the CIA. He becomes a secret agent specializing in espionage, and soon earns the rank of Colonel. It is during this period where he begins building connections with the Marvel Superheroes.

S.H.I.E.L.D.

Fury is brought into S.H.I.E.L.D. by Tony Stark. Nick builds the organization into one of the most powerful forces on the planet. S.H.I.E.L.D.'s direct enemy is the terrorist group HYDRA. That group is established by Baron Wolfgang von Strucker, an old enemy of Nick's from World War II.

Over the years, Nick and his S.H.I.E.L.D. agents have withstood many threats from HYDRA. Along with his current second in command Maria Hill, Fury is always watchful over the organization he has built. Enemy infiltration is always a possibility.

When world-level threats descend upon the Marvel Universe, it is Nick Fury and his Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D that create the support network for the world's heroes. He is an invaluable asset to the war on global evil.
