Nickelodeon Purchases the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

The Dawn of a New Era for TMNT?

According to www.mtv.com, the acquisition of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by Nickelodeon may bring a new era to the already successful franchise. Nickelodeon could be the reason why the upcoming live action TMNT film was pushed to the year 2012. The movie was to be originally released around 2011 and this may have caused a little bit of anger among TMNT fans. Believe it or not, Nickelodeon plans to release an all new turtle series the same year as the film (possibly to sell even more of their merchandise). Instead of making another animated version of the Ninja Turtles, Nickelodeon will be releasing a CGI animated show. Ironically, there was a different CGI show released in the mid 1990s that never had an episode. I actually saw the trailer for the series on www.youtube.com and I was left with disappointment. I am glad it never aired because it was just plain awful due to the ugly character designs.

I personally believe Nickelodeon will do a fine job with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I am even happier Disney did not purchase them because they would have soiled the franchise by making them much bubblier than the original cartoon. Had Disney purchased these guys, they would have made them more appealing towards toddlers rather than the original fan base. This may actually happen to the recently acquired brand of Marvel Comics by Disney. Unfortunately for the TMNT, Mirage Comics will stop publishing their gritty comics by early next year. This is awful news for the fans that love and cherish Eastman and Laird's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I myself grew up reading Eastman and Laird's TMNT comics and all I can say about them was that they unlike any other comic I have ever read. These comics were about the real Ninja Turtles most fans never knew about. The turtles' sported their original red ninja masks rather than their multi-colored ones. Also, the comics focused on every Ninja Turtle's personality much deeper than the cartoons. Raphael for example, was more emotional and much more violent than his 1987 animated counterpart. Donatello on the other hand was less cheerful and more determined with his mechanical inventions. News regarding the brand new live action TMNT film was found at www.imdb.com.
