Some speculate that the hype is just a marketing ploy for Nicki Minaj's new album "Pink Friday" while others think that Lil' Kim is just making a fuss and is irrelevant. For whatever the reason, Lil' Kim and Nicki Minaj have been taking shots at each another with their tracks.
Lil' Kim's Black Friday
On Friday, November 26, Lil' Kim had released her track "Black Friday," a play on Minaj's highly anticipated "Pink Friday," and the Queen Bee accused Minaj of being a "Kim clone clown." She also calls her a "wannabe" and says, "Sweety, you going on your 14th minute of fame." You can listen to the track here on YouTube, but be warned that it does contain explicit language.
Nicki Minaj's Response to Lil' Kim
Lil' Kim claimed that she's turning "Pink Friday" into "Friday the 13th." So what did Nicki Minaj have to say in response to all of Lil' Kim's accusations? Minaj told Hot 97 that she has to "be careful when you pick fights" and that people "forget where I'm from, and if I have to revert back, I can and I will. So don't play with me." For the most part, Ms. Minaj has been thanking her fans for their undying support throughout the battle.
Nicki Minaj My Time Now
Nicki's documentary, "Nicki Minaj: My Time Now" aired on MTV on November 28 and offered some insight. She discussed the double standards placed on female artists in the entertainment industry and issues with record labels. Her outrageous personality and refreshing music make it no mystery as to why her album was number four on Amazon.com six weeks prior to even hitting store shelves.
Nicki Minaj Breaks Lil' Kim's Record
Nicki Minaj recently beat Lil' Kim's record for being the top female rapper on the Billboard Charts with the most singles. Minaj's "Your Love" was a number one hit summer 2010 and Lil' Kim set the record in 2003 with her single "Jump Off" according to LA Weekly.
It seems like this whole feud started because Lil' Kim felt that Nicki Minaj did not pay her any homage for paving the way. Both rappers have something unique to offer and they shouldn't be disrespecting each other. They should put all of the cattiness behind them and praise each other for being groundbreaking female artists.
